One think that bothered me about Nintendo this generation is that they got greedy and got money out of me by thinking I was a fool.
They released the Memory card in phazes instead of just releasing ONE big one.
They made link play, and locked feature unless I went out and got a GBA, a game and a wire.
I was just hooking up My CUBE to play RE4....I just noticed how ridiculously short the wires on the Cube controllers are. I happen to have a SNES and an N64 near by and compared...WAY shorter wires on the CUBE.
Do you think Nintendo Did this to get people to bite on the WaveBird that would be released in due time?
oh fine. here

Not sure but it initally irked me as well too.
Now that I have the Wavebird though, it's all good.
ANY next gen system that doesn't have wireless controllers out of the box is automatically not getting my $$. Wires are just so inconvenient now.

Thats what I mean. Do you think they made short wires to make people WANT Wavebird....
Sort of pulling wool over our eyes. Make the Wires short then sell a wirless controller.

Even if they did do it on purpose, I would have still bought my beloved WaveBird. Also, they did not swindle any money out of me either. I only payed for 4 (well, technicly 3) controllers. I did not buy too many corded ones. I have nothing to regret.

Ofcourse, just like they didn't put a headphone jack on the GBASP. So you had to spend more money to get a gosh darn adapter.

well i dont know, but the power cord and Video outputs are pretty long compared to xboxs. i Pull my gamecube out to play so cord length doesnt bother me, but my xbox has trouble making it to the wall becuase the power cord is like a foot and a half.

The memory cards were purposely made small because the profits nintendo would be making were huge. As for the cords they cut off the extra foot or two to save $0.0001 on each controller. Matt talked about the cords before in a mail bag. Nintendo is a very cheap company.
As for the wavebird, they're nice but i wish logitech would make a wireless controller with rumble for the cube. I have a ps2 one and it destroys the wavebird.

Yeah probably, but I don't really care. You're going to need more than one controller and the Wavebird is only 5 bucks more.

I'm not sure where you got your SNES and N64 wires from, but mine are the EXACT same length as the GCN cables.
Besides, you're a damn fool if you're not playing with the Wavebird, and that has nothing to do with cord length. The cords could be fifty feet long and I'd feel exactly the same way about it.

Yeah VISS Nintendo made short wires to get you to buy a Wavebird.
And Microsoft made a huge ass gargantuan controller that no one in their right mind would ever want to play with in order to get everyone to buy the S.
And Sony only added 2 controller ports on their console in order to get everyone to buy the multitap.
It's one huge controller conspiracy, and EVERYONE is in on it, except YOU.

At this point I'm thankful that Nintendo launched with the MC59. The 251 was an unneccessary step, but by launching with the small card most games were forced to be developed with small saves. Thanks to that, I have over 50 games on my MC1019 (8mb) and its only 2/3 full. Conversely, I have six games on my PS2 8mb card and its half full.
By giving developers plenty of space, Sony let them get lazy. If I wanted to save 50 PS2 games I would need an entire stack of memory cards, and I guarentee that would cost more than the one MC59, one MC251, and one MC1019 that I've bought for my GameCube.
Its deceptive, but Nintendo actually had the better value on Memory Cards this gen. Of course nobody can beat Microsoft's hard drive, but thats another discussion all together.

They aren't bad but they are no where near as long as almost every other console. I got the wavebird and it works fine and I picked up 2 additional extension cords so when I want rumble I can have it. Yeah it's a pain.

They didn't need any tricks to get people to buy the wavebird. It's the best wireless controller ever made.

You know, if the Wavebird launched at like $70 like many other wireless controllers at that time, I would've had the same thought you did. As it stands, $35 is a fantastic price for such a functionally flawless controller (the need for rumble is subjective, IMO). If it had been priced higher, I would have thought about it a little longer, and probably not gotten one. The way it actually happened, however, had me buy 4 of them and trade in all my corded controllers (3 at the time). I think of it as an optional upgrade, as the cord length never really bothered me. The system isn't exactly difficult to pull out further if the controllers are too short.
And Chefgon makes an excellent point about the memory cards. It still amazes me that the save files on most games are so small (Metroid Prime - 1 block, Rebel Strike - 3 blocks for 5 save slots I think). Not counting custom game saves (like create-a-skater that my little brother uses, or custom maps in TS2), I could fit all my games on one MC 251. I can't fit all my saves from my PS2 games on one card, and I have about 1/4 as many as I do for the Cube. The hard drive in the Xbox created the opposite effect, I think, as many save files won't even fit on a memory card (KOtOR, Morrowind, most DLC). But, the end-user doesn't really notice that if they only ever use their one system.

they cut the cords down because in japan they were way too long so many complaints of Long controller cords were sent to Nintendo and sony. Nintendo answered this, but sony just changed the color.as for short wires, i pull the cube out in the middle of my room and can sit back to play. the cables for the wall, and the A/V cables are about 3 feet longer than Sony's.
