| For all of you who don't know who Do is, Do is a Dutch singer who leads the vocals in the song "Heaven" by DJ Sammy and Yanou, and many other songs. Do's full name is Dominique Rijpma Van Hulst. She was born in 1981 in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Do has a brother named Dan. Do was meant to play tennis since her dad was a famous tennis coach by the name of William Jan ven Hulst, but by the age of 15, she became interested in singing. Thus began her successful career. Do's first hit was "Real Good" and later on came "You and I" in 1997, which became a universal success. Do didn't expect to become a professional singer when she was young, but that was until she was offered some studio jobs like singing background vocals for other artists, and singing demos and radio commercials. She performed on a national road-show, in little cafes, big theatres, sang for the prince of Maroc, sang a duet with Marco Borsato the no. 1 selling artist in the Netherlands, did background vocals for Tony Hadley, sang on a private birthday party of the director of Haute Couture Chanel and sang on the wedding of a family member of the Cashiragi's. She has opened for Five and Montel Jordan while successing in her own solo carreer. It was then that her lovely vocals were noticed. Through a studio job, Do met Yanou. They had been working on different commercials for many times, and it was then that they both realized she had a lot of talent in her, and decided to produce a modern version of "Heaven" by Bryan Adams. This version, though, was a dance hit produced by DJ Sammy and Yanou. DJ Sammy figured that with a remix and a lovely female voice, the new song would become internationally famous, and he was right. In the USA "Heaven" made it to the fourth spot in the Billboard charts. And they also became the only artists in the American History of Music to have two versions of the same song in the Billboard charts at the same time. In Australia they were top three and in the UK they entered the charts at number 1 On April 9, 2003, Do won an award for Best New Dutch Singer at the TMF awards (a famous radio station award in the Netherlands). She showed up with Westlife at the TMFs and they became impressed with her and they invited Do to be their support act at their appearance in Ahoy, Rotterdam at the first of May 2003. Right now Yanou and their production company Toneteam are finishing Do's album which will be released later on this year in 2003. |
