Writing in 21st century
My Reflection
After extensive research and many
hours of writing I’ve come to the conclusion that there isn’t really a way of
stopping people from stereotyping. Stereotyping has been passed down from
generation to generation. Either the parents pass it on to their children or
the children acquire it from outside sources such as television. After spending
many hours researching this topic the only thing I couldn’t grasp was how many
media and television shows have stereotyped Hispanics and of high percentage
Mexicans. I understand that the population of Mexicans in the United States is very large; however, there are many
other ethnicities out there that face the same problem. Wherever I looked in
books I only found that authors talked about how much stereotyping goes on with
Mexicans. There were also so much media that portrayed Hispanics negative that
I couldn’t state them all. I found that the only way to stop stereotyping is to
stop teaching it. If a child is exposed to hatred against a race then that can
make the child believe it they are superior to that race. It’s a growing chain
and you can’t break a cycle it just goes on and on. I find that everybody
stereotypes. No matter if your black, Puerto Rican, or Chinese, we all tend to
view other races as one. On the other hand, who gets to say that all Puerto
Ricans are the same and all Asians are the same? No one is the same. Everybody
is an individual and for someone to make an assumption of a person because of
their race is just wrong. We tend to discard it since it goes on in our daily
life but nothing can be done because people are going to have their opinions
and their own thoughts. At 1st I had the idea of creating a day in
which random students from different races come together and do activities to
make them bond and experience other things out of their “normal” environment.
However, you still cant change their ideas.
