Hello! My name is Dominic, I am 12 years old. I'm from Ohio. I love to eat and enjoy going out to the park with my family. I like to swim, sing, watch TV and draw. I also do some chores.
I'm so glad to be able to do all normal kids do because God gave me a second chance to live a normal life and experience how wonderful it is to wake up and enjoy the day.

When I was three weeks old, I was put on Peritoneal Dialysis due to infection. As days go by, I was diagnosed with ESRD(End Stage Renal Disease). My Mom used to do all my home dialysis (CCPD or CAPD) for four years without any problem. I was taking several medications including Epoetin Alfa shot to help me produce red blood cells and be healthy. I also get a hormone shot so I could grow. Then I got sick due to Peritonitis that won't go away, so they decided to put me on HemoDialysis. |

CCPD HemoDialysis 1-day post Transplant |

HemoDialysis was hard on me because I always get stomach pain during treatment, my blood pressure go up so I was taking few BP med to control my BP. I was on low salt/potassium diet, I'm also on restricted fluid and I'm weak most of the time. My Dad decided that it was time to follow up with my Transplant Team. Six months later, we were called two times. I received my new kidney from a wonderful cadaver donor. We are very thankful to GOD, to her and her family for giving me A Gift of Life; and live a normal life. I started to grow without the help of Growth Hormone. I stop taking my BP med and Prednisone (one of my anti-rejection med). As of now, more than six years transplant, I only take four kinds of med.-- Cellcept, Prograf, Bactrim and Bicetra.
Other Diagnosis and Treatment:
Hernia due to Dialysis fluid-- Surgery.
GTube--Gastrostomy.
Hyperparathyroidism and bone rickets--Parathyroidectomy Surgery. My bones was in so much pain, I can't walk but after surgery, my bones are stronger, I can walk and run again. |
