Departure of the Domain saint - Marie in carriage for a conducted tour and commantée by Jean-Pierre and Eric APHATIE, who selected, for you, circuits around the ponds of Brenne. You will discover, during the stroll, the history of Brenne, its habits and customs, the rare birds which populate her(it), the game, the fishes and the evolution of the fish breeding. You will not miss to fall under the charm of this unique(only) region stayed in the wild state.

A little of history!
In the borders of Touraine, Limousin, Poitou and Berry, extends a region of swamps, brandes and forests … Saltus Brionis, current " Brenne " is connected geographically with Berry. The monks of Méobec and Saint-Cyran, under the administration of king Dagobert, and later the fishermen cleaned up swamps, unhealthy by transforming them into silvery mirrors, reflecting the colours of the sky, charming the walkers and attracting(enticing) the first naturalists. So was born the Country of the Thousand Ponds, in the third row(rank) of the wet zones of France (covering hestares 166 000).

In the North,
Of the valley of the Creuse, the " Grande Brenne " characterized by a landscape of ponds interrupted with wood, with moors, of let us earth up, of red stonewares and prairies …

In the South,
L has "Girl Brenne", ponds are less numerous, leaving place with the cultures and with the wood. Valleys dug by Anglin and the Creuse drew reliefs more stressed and lined punctually with cliffs …

Only fifteen years ago, Brenne was known only for passionate persons' handle, majority of the general public ignored this region put off by Berry. Today, the creation of the regional Natural reserve, the craze for the environment and the " green leisure activities " led(drove) walkers, naturalists or more simply curious and tourists on the roads of the " Country of the Thousand Ponds ".

Ponds, moors, prairies, wood, fallow lands, stuck and cultures;
The variety of the natural circles is remarkable and explains at once the presence of a surprising flora and a fauna. The less known, architectural patrimony, is not there less interesting for all that . The religious architecture of Romanic style is very rich. Fortified castles and commanderies testify of the important role of border played by this region among Berry and Aquitaine. The environment is marked by harmonious architecture formed by houses simple and printed by an appropriate(clean) indentité.
