RTHK - RAY & RON INTERVIEW TRANSLATION
[View Comments!]
[Translation by Dolphin]
______________________________________________________________________________________________
DJ: Lan-Ji, now there's two handsome guys sitting here...
Lan-Ji: Through the hardship of getting rid of the flem, flem is up the throat again [meaning to fall for someone, to start to like someone], and here in double.
DJ: Young and good potential. Strange that they both should be, are somewhat compeditors, but I heard they are pretty good friends.
Lan-Ji: There must be something that caused you two to be friends, such as same hobbies, meet a girl [everyone reacts to this] , or go ice skating...
DJ: Now, sitting here are Raymond Lam & Ron Ng. First, how come you two can be such good friends?
Ray: How come so friend? Back then when I was in training, he's next door. Back then, he was in the dance class, but went in during the same time. We knew each other already, but not very close. Then later, after he changed (to acting class), he "looked alright".
DJ: Sounds like looking for girlfriend. [the phrase 'hup ngan yoon' basically means you think someone of the opposite sex looks alright, so the DJs were laughing at this phrase and in the background Ron says he's a bit scared...hehe]
Ray: Well mainly it's when filming Twin of Brothers, TVB's first all-real-scenery-filming in China, stayed there for four months. So if in four and a half months two people live together and see each other at work, and no arguements, so basically can be good friends.
Lan-Ji: But what do guys do to get to be good friends?
Ray: Same hobbies/interests.
DJ: Like if both likes cars...
Lan-Ji: What else do you two click to?
Ron: Forced to click...because filming TOB together, forced to see him.
Ray: That was hard for you.
Lan-Ji: Now it's finished you don't have to see him.
Ron: Can't help it, in four months, many things we're used to now [couldn't hear it too clear] .
DJ: Are your personalities same?
Ray & Ron: Not the same.
DJ: Ray gives us the feeling of being very polite. Acting a charater, if categorizing him, he's very polite, a very good boy. Ron's a bit more wild.
Lan-Ji: Someone said last week, "don't say anything wrong, Ron's face will darken". Is it your personality?
Ron: My face is darkened by sun.
Lan-Ji: Is your personality the kind of "xx" [two words that apparently nobody seemed to understand] , meaning face will darken, like later I'll say something wrong and you'll throw the mic and leave, can't talk anymore, will you?
Ron: No, I won't. Throwing the mic is Ray.
Ray: He blames everything on me.
DJ: Ray doesn't seem the type to throw the mic.
Lan-Ji: Ray is like "looy yun tong yoon" [women soup dumpling] . "looy yun tong yoon" meaning is when people see him they will like him, "yeh toe fah" [meaning female(s) will be attracted or will surround him] .
DJ: I think both will attract females.
Lan-Ji: Because Ron's face is a bit cool, people may not be as brave [to go up to him] . You give me both who are handsome, I would go to Ray first. Because maybe some guys will "offer you to eat lemon" [meaning they will reject you] .
DJ: You just like him because he's got money.
Lan-Ji: Ron doesn't have money?
Ron: Ah, wait a year and a half for me.
Lan-Ji: Ok, I'll wait for you. This year I'll try Ray first.
Ron: Come knock on my door in a year and a half.
Lan-Ji: Okay, eat up to two lemons.
DJ: Let's talk about Ray...what do you think about your own personality like? Is it as polite as your characters?
Ray: Not really. If I can be so polite we wouldn't click as much.
...
Ron: He is quite polite. Up to a point, he is a little polite, a little mature. I am quite different because I'm a bit more naughty (playful).
Lan-Ji: Would there be "doy kow" [meaning it's hard to communicate with such differences] when talking?
Ron: It's just his personality that is mature.
DJ: You've got "doy kow" [I assume he's referring to Lan-Ji towards Ron] .
Ron: Can't even conversate [referring to Lan-Ji I assume] . (Everyone laughs)
DJ: You're not from acting class.
Lan-Ji: I'm not.
Ron: So we cannot communicate with Lan-Ji.
DJ: Do you know which year Miss Hong Kong she is?
Ron: Ask Ray, he'll know.
Ray: I really don't know.
DJ: She's 1988. So good, can keep [her looks] so good.
Lan-Ji: Is there any questions? It's like last year's event.
...
DJ: This time is special, the two of them sitting here, their identity are not actors, they're singers.
Lan-Ji: Twins, right? [for those who don't know, Twins are female group singers]
Ray: No, "mens".
DJ: Yes, men's scent, because came out with a "men's scent" CD with many different males and all songs have to do with tv series.
Lan-Ji: Lately, TVB likes to popularize their actors to be singers. On last week's "sow lan kook" [song that is not doing good], we talked about, don't worry we didn't talk about you [referring to Ray and/or Ron?]...
DJ: We also praised them two, both are considered pretty good...
Lan-Ji: Because we talked about Moses, like perhaps he has potential, but it's so fast and he's put out in public to sing, and not enough practice yet, there's a lot of pressure. For you (two), pushing you to walk this path, are you scared of pressure?
Ron: Singing, a bit scared. Afterall, I started out as a dancer, have a little stage experience. Ray sings more so his experience must be more than me.
DJ: I'll ask Ray first. Because the first time I interviewed him he's a third of a singer, because back then you came up here for interview and you were signed to Pacco (? it's the music company), Wong Pacco. How come afterwards, the album was cancelled?
Ray: Because back then I was filming series very close to each other. So to tell you the truth, if I want to concentrate on making an album, can't just say oh finished recording and just throw it out. Basicaly, including production, selecting songs, recording songs, and promoting it...at least 3 months. But the time used for filming series continuously, basically cannot take three months out of filming.
DJ: So the outcome is the album was cancelled.
Ray: Yeah.
DJ: Were you a bit disappointed back then? Originally your already leaning towards it...
Ray: Not really, I've filmed a lot of series anyways.
Ron: And pretty good results too!
DJ: How about Ron? Back then, Ron ... first you said you were in dancer training class, then later you changed to be in actor training class and now if you also from actor to become a singer, are you unable to get used to the change in-between?
Ron: Eh...I would. Suddenly comes a job that I've never tried, never dealt with before...is pretty sudden.
DJ: Do you have any singing foundation? Have you learned it?
Ron: I've learned it, but not deeply. I only learned singing after going into this field (referring to entertainment field?)
DJ: When you went into this field, you didn't think of being a singer?
Ron: No. I went into this field to dance.
Lan-Ji: Do you think of not wasting (your talent)?
Ron: Eh...company thinks so, I guess.
DJ: But are you confident?
Ron: I have.
DJ: Like when listening to your song, because some people are a bit wierd especially when hearing themself sing for their first time feel like their voice is wierd, not very natural, and this and that...do you have that feeling?
Ron: Just listen to myself less often
Lan-Ji: Afraid to listen?
Ron: Even if afraid, I still have to listen.
DJ: How about first time in the recording studio?
Ron: I don't think this is my first song to go into the recording studio. I've sung themesong before for company, went in to record song.
DJ: Back then, was it wierd to listen to it?
Ron: Also wierd. Like Ron Ng singing is wierd.
Lan-Ji: But doesn't Ron sing slow songs so far?
Ron: Yes.
Lan-Ji: But your dancing is so great you should sing song and dance, that'll be great.
Ray: He sings love songs more.
DJ: I know. Today's newspaper says he is the love song king.
Ron: Huh? when did it say?
Ray: I said it.
Ron: You saying it is different than the newspaper saying it.
Ray: It's more real when I say it.
Ron: ...Love songs?..you!
Ray: Remember when recording the Olympic song, you (Ron) sang it like a love song.
Lan-Ji: Who did you sing it with?
Ray: Us six. Then when it's his part we're like...wah! love song prince!
Ron: You said in front of all the reporters that I'm love song prince...
Ray: I'm just complimenting you
Ron: I know! So I thank you!
DJ: But I haven't seen Ron dance.
Lan-Ji: He should be able to dance it.
DJ: Ray, have you seen it?
Ray: Yes! On the same stage too.
Ron: I backup danced for him.
Lan-Ji: Is it true?
Ron: Of course it's true.
Ray: of course not!
Ron: Are you mistaken?...
Lan-Ji: So you two didn't go up on the same level then, you've backup-danced for him. Why did you backup for him?
Ron: No...at the time he (Ray) is already an artist, I'm a dancer.
Lan-Ji: Oh.
Ron: ...a TVB show, I danced along in back.
DJ: How come at that time you didn't think about applying for the actor training class, but instead the dancer trainging class?
Ron: Because at that time I really liked to dance. Because our classes, my dance class and his acting class, started in the same term. But I chose...didn't even think about being an artist...my choice was to chose to dance.
DJ: At that time, what's the reason why you didn't think about it? Did you think that being an artist has a lot of hassle?
Ron: No. I didn't even know what it is.
Lan-Ji: Huh?
Ron: Because I haven't been in contact with it...
Lan-Ji: You don't know what acting is?
DJ: But I think he's not too "wanting fortune and fame" kind. If this kind, immediately choose actor training class...
Lan-Ji: Then you think Ray is very "wanting fortune and loves fame" kind? [she's defending our Ray! ^^]
DJ: See, he doesn't have to be "wanting fortune and loves fame" kind because he's got money.
Ron: Okay, that's enough for today (jokingly).
Lan-Ji: No, he's not...he's..."wanting fortune"..."loves fame"...he's "loves fame". Right!?
DJ: You're "loves fame" (talking about Lan-Ji). You're "wanting fortune & loves fame"
Lan-Ji: Correct. I'm very, very "wanting fortune and loves fame".
DJ: Oh, so then you didn't think of being a star?
Ron: Nope.
DJ: Thinking it's a job and have a lot of interest.
Lan-Ji: Secretly support singers?
Ron: Uh..yeah. Some people really do like to dance.
DJ: But at the end, what made you switch from the dance group to acting group?
Lan-Ji: Did you realize that there are many singers who are not as good as you? If so, why not I sing
DJ: ..no...there's not much chances of backup-dancing 'cause the economy (?) is too bad.
Ron: No, when I changed, I changed into acting and not singing...
DJ: but what's the reason for you to think of change? The company (TVB) convinced you?
Ron: Not convince...but just why not try changing...and I think dancing is not a lifelong career. Maybe up until 40 something 50 years old, the maximum would be able to be a dance instructor, but still have to dance, but perhaps my bones are all fragile...dance and *pop* sound...and see you in the hospital.
DJ: But perhaps going down the line of singing, would you...Lan-Ji: Lovesong Prince...DJ: won't be Lovesong Prince, Lovesong Prince is just what Ray says. Since you have a skill (dancing), you can show your skill.
Ron: Eh, hopefully.
DJ: But maybe TVB series themes...which one is a dance song?
Ray: It's possible...they just find people to write it anyways.
DJ: See if it fits the series.
Lan-Ji: TVB company is so big, what can they not do?
DJ: Don't think you can go back in (TVB).
Lan-Ji: Ok.
DJ: Out of nowhere...usually on Mondays you talk smack (about TVB) until they're dead...
Ron: At first she said it pretty good...TVB's good
Lan-Ji: That phrase is the clearest all day (Lan-Ji's voice is very coarse and the DJs ALWAY make fun of her voice)
DJ: You (Lan-Ji), listen to a song.
{Ron - Don't Blame Her}
DJ: We just listened to Ron's Don't Blame Her. Ray, I think you've probably heard it. Have you heard it? Is it your first time hearing it?
Ray: Ehh, first time hearing it.
Ron: What?
DJ: Any comments?
Ray: You hid it, won't let me listen...
Ron: I let you hear it but you wouldn't listen to it...I let you hear it in the car and you wouldn't listen...
DJ: It's like this. Today we saw the newspaper, Ray said Ron is Lovesong Prince. First time listening to Don't Blame Her, what are your feelings?
Ray: Shows that I didn't say it wrong (Ron being Lovesong Prince).
DJ: Lovesong Prince...Sing these (love songs) will "kill the enemy"
Ray: Of course.
Lan-Ji: Ron, talk about Ray (his song).
Ron: Haven't heard it. Even if I heard it, I won't...
Lan-Ji: Wah, you are such good buddies. Both support each other so much.
Ron: Haven't heard it! (in an angry voice)
DJ: Wah! So mad! But you've heard Ray sing before?
Ron: Yes.
DJ: Like at karaoke...
Ron: Before, he had a tv series, The Last Breakthrough, at that time I've heard his song.
DJ: My first time hearing Ray sing, like there's no introduction...some tv [series] will air...sounds kind of like William So.
Lan-Ji: William So is good stuff, his voice!
DJ: Sings pretty good, Ray. Sings pretty good.
Ray: Thanks, thanks. Which song was it?
DJ: I don't remember which one at the time.
Lan-Ji: Is it "yoot mun yoot surng sum" (The more kisses, the more heartache)?
DJ: How is it? That's William So's. Already good, she can remember the song name. I don't remember which one. A very big (?) song.
Ray: Ancient or modern?
DJ: No, modern [or he could have said "not modern"]
Ray: Modern? Survivor's Law?
DJ: Similar to that. Anyways, it's a very big...love song.
Ray: Then it should be Survivor's Law.
DJ: Yeah. Then I listened and it sounded like William So. Then I explored and found out it was sung by Ray. [I agree and think he kind of sounds like William So, but in Lofty Waters Verdant Bow, Ray really sounds like Ekin Cheng...especially in the 1st verse]
Lan-Ji: Wah.
DJ: Oh, you haven't heard Ray sing?
Lan-Ji: Not yet.
Ron: Sing one right now.
Ray: Don't say that.
DJ: Don't worry. Later we will play "Realize". The question asked at first were on Ron's background...now it's time for Ray. There always have been rumors about you being rich. Are you really rich?
Lan-Ji: About how much do you have?
Ray: Wah, if I had money I don't have to work so hard.
DJ: Really? Not really, some people earn money ... [something I couldn't understand].
Lan-Ji: TVB has a lot of rich guys.
DJ: Such as?
Ron: Ron Ng!
Ray: Yeah!
Lan-Ji: "Wong Yeen Jee", who else? "Fung Joe Ming" (Jacky Chan's son)?
DJ: "Fung Joe Ming" isn't from TVB. Ok. First, talk about the rumor.
Ray: What rumor?
DJ: Huh? You already answered it? You said rich person don't have to work so hard.
Ray: Of course.
Lan-Ji: Hey. Rich guy doesn't have to work too hard, really. Very tiring/hard work to film movies/series.
Ray: Well, filming and do anything, is tiring/hard work.
DJ: Did family members say to Ray 'How come you take on hard work when you can relax [something like that]?'
Ray: No, my family members let me jee yow fot fai [sorry, don't know the translated word...means letting him have freedom in doing what he wants to do]. As long as I can take care of myself.
Lan-Ji: Any limitations such as giving you three years, then to go back and help Dad with his business?
Ron: (Sounds) like filming a movie?
[everyone laughs]
Lan-Ji: How'd you know I get this scene from series (taking ideas from series)?
Ron: I think now-a-days, parent are more open.
DJ: Ron said that when he started off in dancing, dance training class, and says he has an interest. So Ray, when you joined the acting training class, what was your point?
Ray: My point? Eh, actually it's not entirely out of interest. Before, i actually learn to sing. But I remember when I just started out 6 years ago, at that time the economy was pretty bad. So if I sang, it's really hard.
DJ: 6 years? So around the time of the market crash.
Ray: Yeah. At that time, I've already met some record companies. But at the time it was very risky. Then afterwards, there was a tv station and someone suggested to try and play in the training class. So I joined.
DJ: But did you participate in any singing competitions?
Ray: No.
DJ: Oh, not even once?
Ray: No.
DJ: Oh, because usually if you want to be a singer, you must participate in a competition at least once.
Lan-Ji: But if you don't win then you're dead?
DJ: Nothing you can do about it. But you gotta take the chance. Those "chahn hook yut ding" [variety show hosted by Hacken Lee & Joey Leurng where it's like American Idol], "yut gooy sing ming" [another similar show?].
Lan-Ji: I definately won't participate in "chahn hook yut ding". (Will) stink for a million years.
DJ: Oh, you won't participate in "yut gooy sing ming" either?
Lan-Ji: I also won't. People criticizes (on that show). Everyday you criticize me enough.
DJ: Oh, so at that time Ray, it's 50/50 [half-half]?
Ray: Yes. Uh, what 50/50?
DJ: You joining this field (show business).
Lan-Ji: (No,) your sex/gender/sexual orientation. [she jokes because Ray didn't hear what the question about 50/50 was...haha]
[everyone laughs]
DJ: Joining the acting training class. Because you said that it's partially because of...interest?
Ray: Eh, really, to tell you the truth, interest is brought out while I am filming. Up until now, I like it.
DJ: So before it's ok?
Ray: Because, the truth is, I didn't know what filming was, just like Ron. When you don't know what something is, how can you have interest for it?
DJ: Then it's really hard work in the beginning? You don't even know what it is.
Ray: In the beginning I would learn. And since I chose this path, then I will continue to walk it.
DJ: Wah, you get yelling at alot (when acting) [by directors or cameramen or other people].
Ron: We've also been extras in the background...
DJ: I've seen your series.
[they were all talking at the same time so I couldn't hear it clearly, but in this part Ron & Ray are arguing about who had more roles as an extra, and DJ was saying he couldn't remember which series Ron was an extra on, and Lan-Ji was asking Ray if he's been in some show or movie/tv series but Ray didn't answer because he was busy arguing with Ron]
DJ: But you have dialogue as a gangster!
Ray: Shows you close up.
DJ: He has no name but he has dialogue!
Lan-Ji: Is it just "Yes sir"?
DJ: Similar to that.
Ron: The kind that just says "attack!"
DJ: But how many years did you have to tough it out during those "attack" (roles)?
Ray: I was lucky. On TVB8...
Ron: [says something but I couldn't hear it...]
Ray: Of course not. At that time I was a host on the Mandarin channel. So the series over here booked me to do the extras were...
DJ: less?
Ray: Kind of hard to book.
DJ: That's good.
Ray: Because everyday I have to continuously work over there (Mandarin station). Eh, but I still did some (extras) ever so often. Back then, in XXX [sorry, he said some series name he was an extra for, but I don't know what it is] I was a waiter.
DJ: Ok Ray. How did you feel when you were an extra?
Ray: The feeling of being an extra? Learning.
DJ: You didn't feel it was hard to do?
Ray: No, how would I?
DJ: Have you had some director...some director is very mean.
Lan-Ji: No, directors are not considered mean. The "FM" [I definately know that they keep track of time like when there are Jade Solid Gold billboard awards show. But other than that, I don't know what else "FM" does] could be mean.
DJ: They yell from above (in the control room)
Lan-Ji: Sometime the props guy [people who make the set, the things they use on the set like fake money...] are mean.
Ray: No, I think the behind-the-scene staff are very nice. Back in training class, the instructors tell us to constantly say thank you or you'll get yelled at. But it turns out not like that.
Lan-Ji: Oh, you're lucky.
DJ: How about Ron? How long did you tough it out while being an extra?
Ron: Uh, one and a half year.
Lan-Ji: Oh, not too long! Wow, back then, look at Chow Yun Fat. He stood in the back for so long.
DJ: Back then, what kind of extra roles have you played?
Ron: ..uh, Ray had a series, Lofty Waters Verdant Bow. I was in the back holding a sword saying "Kill! Kill!"
Ray: No.
Ron: Yes. You can see my face.
Ray: He has eye expressions.
Lan-Ji: Saying "Kill!"?
Ron: "Kill!"
DJ: At that time, how did you feel?
Ron: My feeling? Also to learn. Don't even know what's going on. Even if they give me a big role, I won't know how to handle it.
DJ: That's good that you didn't have any heart-souring feeling.
Lan-Ji: I want to ask, what is the most happiest thing since joining? Have you tried a scene that is hard to forget?
Ray: The happiest? Knowing all the cast and crew friends. Like before, I kept thinking that "Do the people in this field have some kind of barrier?" But it's not. After connecting with them, actually a lot of the people can be friends.
DJ: How about Ron?
Ron: The most...don't say the happiest... the biggest discovery is just as Ray says, a group of people can actually get along with each other. Not like there's a lot of competition.
DJ: Oh, I thought the competition was still big. Because it seems like every year when new people come out they rate them with how many stars...
Lan-Ji: I remember TVB's this "tiger", that "tiger"...[I think she was hinting at a group of 5 actors called the "Five Tigers" who played brothers in some ancient series]. Their joints got loose [means they elbow people...compete with another].
DJ: Really? Whose joints got loose?
Lan-Ji: Let's not talk about it. Back then, how come our bones and tendons are so good? Because we constantly stretch out.
Ron: So wake up 2 hours early to stretch?
DJ: I heard that some female stars will...
Lan-Ji: Yup, bring out their rollers and stuff....
Ron: Is it because you, Lan-Ji, did that...?
Lan-Ji: No, no, I didn't. At that time I already won the Miss Hong Kong Pageant and was put in the center...
[everyone says "Oh!!!"]
DJ: Oh, so you don't think the competition or the rough competition feeling is very strong?
Ron: It wasn't as big as back when before we joined this field.
DJ: So before joining this field you two have thought of it, have been scared?
Ron: I would. Would I get pushed off stage? Would someone trip [like sticking out your feet so that someone passing by will fall] me?
DJ: Have someone said anything cold? [meaning they'd say bad things about you]
Ron: No.
Ron & Ray: If we don't notice it, no.
Lan-Ji: Have you "NG"ed so many times that someone would complain? "It's almost 2 o'clock. Time to end work." like those?
Ron: Today's booking is 3 o'clock. [he was joking about it being almost time for Ron & Ray to leave..think they only booked for the interview to be just an hour long]
DJ: Yeah, I've heard some senior [not old, well most of them ARE older, but senior as in joining the field earlier than yourself] actors/actresses...their mouths are something [guess he is saying that some seniors say some really mean things when they are going overtime or whatever].
Ron: No they won't.
Ray: We do our homework. [think he means that they remember their scripts and so they don't NG (meaning they have to re-shoot the scene again...No Good?)]
Ron: Now the seniors care for us.
DJ: Ok, let's listen to the news first.
(news & weather broadcast)
[The following section took me at least 90 minutes & has about 18 more minutes left in the interview]
DJ: 2:37pm, continuing the show. Today's guests are Ron & Ray.
Lan-Ji: Personally, they're...
DJ: They are not guests anymore
Lan-Ji: Guests don't get money. Never call me a guest, I tell you. At first I personally saw the two brothers have a connection [meaning they know what each other think and knows each other's personality...the kind of connection you get with a best friend]
DJ: I already said they are friends.
Lan-Ji: Here's the truth, here's the juicy stuff...
DJ: You ask after everyone left, Miss Reporter?
Lan-Ji: It's because they all left [think she's talking about the fans], and TVB's group manager are outside...they can't hit me. Hey Ray, how come people always catch you with girls around?
DJ: It's scarier if he's together with guys.
Ray: Actually, the time I'm with guys is a lot more, but haven't been caught on photos by people.
Lan-Ji: People didn't take pictures of you as much...says that you (Ray) bring girls home. Don't look at Mimi [the one in Blade Heart], I saw those (other girls?). Then I thought to myself, so this works...willing to bring them home.
Ray: Don't say go back home. Like a bunch of friends go to eat, and maybe just see two and took pictures of that.
Lan-Ji: They always get on your case, do you think it's a problem? Like you don't even have the power to meet new friends, as a young guy...right?
Ray: Actually, I think before I would mind more. But now I would probably think it's normal. I'm just eating. I also have friends. No matter guy or girl (friends), I have both. I think it's normal to go out and eat together.
Lan-Ji: Actually, you two are cute guys. So when together and meet female friends, do you feel it's a problem? Like being followed by the paparazzi (reporters), then they write up something really bad?
Ron: When you go outside, you are already prepared that they will write something. First, when you ask a girl out, you are already prepared...
Lan-Ji: But you're not scared it will ruin it? Of course you see her potential so you ask her out. But when you go somewhere, you have to think where there aren't any paparazzis.
Ron: That's why you are considered a reporter [a more direct translation meaning reporters who tells rumors]
Lan-Ji: I am! Today.
DJ: She admits it herself.
Ron: They are girls, but I don't ask girls out to eat only if I like them (in a romantic way). But I think we try to do it less. But don't write it out as if we are no longer friends (because we don't go out with them a lot)...like if I want to ask Lan-Ji out, I can't even do that.
Lan-Ji: I don't mind!
DJ: She'll also call the reporters.
Lan-Ji: Don't say that! People will think it's real. People will think that I'll call the reporters out. Doesn't do me any good.
DJ: Just said that (not meaning it). Because sometimes after work, perhaps there are some...there's always a female partner (a female they must work with in any given series), there's little (series) that doesn't have any female partners. Perhaps being a gentleman, you'll drive them home, and if pictures are taken of that.
Ron: As long as I know the truth myself (that there's nothing between them two). You're just saying that it's true, but if it's true I'll admit it.
Lan-Ji: Would you admit it?
Ron: I would! Of course I will!
Lan-Ji: So if you like that girl you'd admit it?
Ron: I would.
DJ: But right now, both of you won't put love at the top of the list before work, right?
Ray: Of course!
Ron: I think so far, both of us think of work first.
DJ: So ...[something meaning they draw a line between them and girls...so they keep some distance from them]
Ray: For now.
Ron: No, there's no time.
Ray: Can't say that we totally cut them off. I also have friends. You can't say that all my friends are guys.
DJ: But to tell yourself to actually date someone, that thinking is not strong?
Lan-Ji: Go by nature or what?
Ray: Go by nature (meaning to let things happen as it comes, and not go looking for it). Concentrate on work.
Lan-Ji: In the past two years, have you guys seen any girls that you are interested in, but because of work you hurtfully cut it off (resist yourself)?
Ray: I think that even before we start to be interested in a girl, there are no more chances of seeing each other again.
Ron: You know, we have to film series. Filming series so there's not a lot of time to interact with friends.
DJ: How is it at the peak of filming series? How many scenes after how many scenes?
Lan-Ji: No time to shower? Do you take showers?
Ron: I've tried day to night.
Ray: Day to night and again to day.
Ron: Continuously, perhaps no sleep for 4 days.
Lan-Ji: Then you didn't even shower?
Ron: We did. We can go home to shower.
Ray: We have to shower.
Lan-Ji: Some people don't even shower.
DJ: Then how do you remember your scripts for 4 days without sleep? Like the hard to remember stuff like in Survivor's Law, you have to remember a bunch of stuff.
Lan-Ji: Yeah, the law related...
Ray: Usually the harder dialogues are done at the end (of that shoot) and you are already into your character, and by then it's already familiar to you. The dialogue, you are probably already inside the character. You don't have to remember the exact dialogue and you can express the dialogue in your own way.
DJ: But don't they yell at you if you don't follow the script?
Lan-Ji: Yeah, the law stuff...
Ray: Of course not. No, the law stuff, the points, you can't say it wrong.
Lan-Ji: Do you know what is the hardest for an actor/actress? The court scenes.
Ron: Yeah, it's hard.
Lan-Ji: And sometimes an artiste (actor/actress) can cover it up with almost the same mood, and perhaps the mood is even better. But...
Ray: If you say a word wrong, you can't cover it up.
Lan-Ji: Yeah. They follow you very tightly (the words). And doctors too. The two of you, being an artiste is pretty good, you can do any kind of character. But what kind of character do you really want to do?
Ron: I really want to be blind.
Lan-Ji: Your eyes are so pretty! You want to be blind?
Ron: Blind, deaf, mute...that kind.
DJ: Disabled person.
Ron: Yeah.
DJ: Why?
Ron: Because before, I've seen a movie about an African person...won awards for it..."Ray".
Lan-Ji: Ray Charles. That was good.
Ron: After watching it, if I could film this kind of character and others approve of it, I'd be pretty happy.
Lan-Ji: I heard it's hard to do. Have to wear those colored contact lense.
Ron: That's just when he was a kid (the kid character). It was just one scene.
Lan-Ji: Still pretty hard. Andy Lau wore contact lense and something's happened... And how about Ray?
Ray: I want to portray those...not the usual characters. I want to portray perhaps someone with mental illness, something wrong mentally.
Lan-Ji: Because actually I think that Ray is very polite...
DJ: You mean (he's) psycho (crazy, mental)
Lan-Ji: No. Can you be kind of "cho-ho" [means to be rough] like hitting (people)? Gangster boss? You haven't tried it right?
Ray: It's hard in a series.
Lan-Ji: Because he talks with a soft voice.
DJ: No, I remember they both were on the newspaper, Twin of Brothers, there were shots of them very daring...
Lan-Ji: Oh, showing private parts? T-back.
Ray: It didn't show.
Lan-Ji: What about the front? You have to go up on shore.
Ron: Tape.
DJ: Just shoot from back.
Ron: You have to remember. In front of us is Miss Five [the one who plays their God-Mother, I've heard...because I haven't seen TOB yet] watching our front side.
Lan-Ji: Lucky for her... [yes, if you haven't noticed, Lan-Ji is a bit preverted for a female]. If I knew I'd be the one bringing tea and water to you guys.
DJ: But I was curious why the ...[sorry, words are bunched up and I couldn't hear this part clearly]
Ray: Actually, the "yee sik" meaning is pretty healthy (they did it in a healthy way, not nasty or perverted). It's for the skit.
DJ: But it's nothing. They are strict when cutting the shots [someone cuts out parts from every scene to connect them to each other]
Lan-Ji: But if looking from Miss Five's view, then everyone will think it (the scene) is not good.
DJ: But when shooting this shot did you feel wierd?
Ray: Actually, it was decided at that moment. We only found out after going on the set..."huh? are you kidding?". But we have no choice since the director told us to.
Lan-Ji: So, how do you tape the tape?
DJ: You don't have to go so up (tape "it" high), you can go down more. [I have no idea. Maybe you'll understand if you've seen the scene]
Lan-Ji: So, how do you tape the tape?
DJ: You don't have to go so up (tape "it" high), you can go down more. [I have no idea. Maybe you'll understand if you've seen the scene]
Ron: They want to have that feeling. Actually, it's so that we (Ron & Ray) being naked will make Miss Five embarrassed and leaves.
Lan-Ji: But using tape, facing Miss Five, it's still embarrassing
Ron: She couldn't hold her laughter. I believe she won't be embarrassed. She's used to seeing big events. [If you didn't know already, she was a porn-star].
DJ: Were you two embarrassed?
Ron: At first we did.
Ray: Us two? At first we did a little.
Ron: But when filming it's not just one shot. It's several shots.
Lan-Ji: You're not scared the rain & water doesn't allow the tape to stick? Then there's your entire exposure.
Ron: Not to worry. We have lots of leg hair.
DJ: Is this your most bravest thing in filming?
Ray: Yes. Definately. Think it'll be hard to do it again.
DJ: Consider it a success. It made it in one series. After watching that part, I figure parents would definately have complaints.
Lan-Ji: That day we had 2 sides talking about it.
Ron: Talking about this topic (their exposure)?
Lan-Ji: Yes.
Ron: What happened?
Lan-Ji: It was 50/50.
DJ: But there were some traditional audience that could not accept it. Yeah. Although we think the plot wasn't that bad.
Lan-Ji: And some things have to slowly happen so that there's a wider area [meaning that slowly showing a little bit exposure at a time to get the audience to accept a wider range of things]
DJ: At first we heard Ron's Don't Blame Her. At this time, let's hear Realize.
Lan-Ji: You have to go away, Ron (joking because of what Ron said earlier).
Ron: Let me leave first.
...[Ray's Realize]...
[This part took me about an hour to translate. About 9 more minutes left.]
DJ: Also comes from the album All About Men is Ray's Realize.
Lan-Ji: His voice...is really...can make females' hearts melt, to tell you the truth.
DJ: Girls.
Lan-Ji: Can't it be women? Females are girls and old women, okay? Females.
DJ: I'm just telling you to be more polite in talking.
Lan-Ji: Actually, did you practice your voice to see what types of songs fit you? Like a romantic path?
Ray: No. We sing whatever the song is. Actually, all the songs we sing are from tv series. So because of the series, we'll sing whatever song that's there for us.
Lan-Ji: Actually, both their voices when talking and singing, there's not a lot of difference. Like once you hear their voice, you can tell they can sing.
DJ: So are you saying you want me to say you also?
Lan-Ji: No, Maria Cadero. Hey, you can't say that. You're so superficial.
DJ: We received a fax from Maggie. She says "Ray's acting is not bad, except ... how come his face is sometimes fat and sometimes skinny?"
Lan-Ji: Swollen sometimes, right?
Ray: I get swollen easily. I like to eat. Perhaps in the summer, if filming ancient series and working harder, I would suddenly get really skinny. When I have free time or if it's more relaxing during a series, I will dare to eat a lot.
Lan-Ji: Were you a fat boy?
Ray: I used to be very skinny. Not a fat boy (to start with). I easily get fat and easily get skinny.
DJ: But if being shot on camera, then...
Ray: Yes, have to keep a bit (fit).
Lan-Ji: Before, someone said you "fixed" your nose. Is it true?
Ray: What do you think?
Lan-Ji: Because I haven't seen you with a very flat nose. I don't think it's true.
Ray: A few years ago, many years ago, I came up on this show. Just the same face.
Lan-Ji: Just the same. But don't know why people say he "fixed" his nose. So I thought I'd ask where he fixed it & how much it cost. I need to fix mine too. Yes, I want to fix it.
DJ: You've finished competing in Miss Hong Kong. Why do you need to fix it?
Lan-Ji: If this is high (nose bridge), I'll be able to marry into a rich family.
DJ: I tell you, if it's fixed after natural (after birth) it doesn't work.
Lan-Ji: After natural is ok. Get to meet them at least.
DJ: Meeting them is no use.
Lan-Ji: Get to eat a bit off him.
DJ: Also talked about Ron (in Maggie's fax). His acting is pretty good. But don't know if this is your acting. But she said your eye expression is sometimes not a lot of energy. Is it your acting or is your eye just like that?
Ron: I'm sleepy. Because I have to sleep. Umm...how do I say it?
DJ: Come closer to the microphone.
Lan-Ji: Come sit closer to me. Sit on my lap.
DJ: Oh no.
Ron: Ehh...sometimes filming series is tiring. Have to use energy to open my eyes...
Ray: Because his eyes are big.
Lan-Ji: Is your eyes big or are both your eyes big?
Ray: His is bigger. So it's easier to get tired.
Lan-Ji: If your eyes are bigger, if filming a cry scene, then oh my gosh. Basically, the eyes sting like heck.
Ron: I easily get red eyes (veins on the eyeball).
DJ: How many series did you guys film? Ray has more right?
Ray: Me? 10...about 10 or so.
Lan-Ji: Wow, considered seniors [no, not old...but meaning seniority-wise], both of you.
DJ: Ron?
Ron: 7
DJ: Which series or which part in a series was the hardest work while filming?
Ron: Actually every series is hard. But hard...filming with Ray in Twin of Brothers. Because...
Ray: The hardest was Twin of Brothers.
Lan-Ji: Have to fight, right?
Ron & Ray: The weather.
DJ: How was the weather?
Ron: 56 degrees celsius.
Lan-Ji: Wow!!! Will get heat stroke!
Ray: (temperature of) the floor.
Ron: We used the thermometer, checked it's...hot...
Ray: You can see the hairpiece was curled, was melted.
Lan-Ji: Wow! You're lucky your hair didn't fall off I tell you! Stuffed up. (like) Sauna.
Ron: When we took off the hairpiece, right when we take it off, there's steam.
Ray: Kind of like when we see the air/steam from cars.
DJ: Are the hairpieces clean?
Ron: (It's) our own.
DJ: Is every one clean?
Ray: When we start, it's clean. But everyday sweating...and can't wash it everyday.
Lan-Ji: Hey, do you know what artists' are most afraid of? Ancient series with fighting scenes and have to wear the clothes of stunt doubles. Have you tried it? Wow, so stinky.
Ray: I have. Sometimes because they have to cut holes or something, you can't cut the original one. So have to wear the stunt double's clothes.
Lan-Ji: Have you tried, other than 56 degrees (celsius), are there any situations that have been the biggest challenge for you?
Ray: Also the coldest (weather).
Lan-Ji: Oh! The hottest and the coldest?
Ron: We experienced the hottest until it was cool and then the coldest.
Ray: And we had to film under water.
DJ: Filming series is like that. The scariest thing about filming series is that you know that in winter you have to pretend it's in the summer and in summer you have to act as if it's winter.
Lan-Ji: Hey, good thing when we ran for Miss Hong Kong we were okay. There were a time we wore bikinis in snowy mountains.
Ron: You could do it.
Lan-Ji: Of course I can't!
DJ: She can't take it!
Lan-Ji: I have to marry someone rich...
DJ: Do you two have any goals right now? The truth about filming series is that continually filming series, you will get well known. But going on like that won't give you much chance to relax...filming from day to night and from night to day...
Lan-Ji: And the good thing about filming series is that when you are well known you can go perform ("dung toy")...
DJ: But not necessarily let you go (let them off work).
Ray: They'll let.
Ron: If we go perform, company will let us.
DJ: Are you looking foward to receiving Big Sister (Lisa Wong)'s fan's money-flowers and stuff?
Ron: Um, we're not that greedy. Doing series is for hobby first, money is on the side but definately need it cause we need it to eat.
DJ: Are there any goals? Have you thought of what your own path or future will be? Did you set a plan for yourself?
Ray: Long term plan?
DJ: Haven't thought of it?
Ray: Not that I haven't thought of it, just haven't set it too high because I'm scared if I set it too high, if these two years my plan changes, I'd be very "grey" (gloomy/negative).
Ron: Me? My plan? No plan, but goal. Hope I'll do several lines (different paths) at the same time....now I'm singing...
Lan-Ji: Honestly, artists now who sings and whatever doesn't necessarily find (a lot of) money. Everyone knows how much you earn for doing television, and it's hard work. Can this be a life-time career, like can let you have a goal in terms of money? Or do you feel you have more interest (in acting) than in (making) money?
Ron: Actually, interest...interest is more by a little while money is a must.
Lan-Ji: Would you be scared there's not a lot of security?
Ray: While we're young, try to find more (money).
Ron: Have to save up (money). Buy a building, like Ray.
Lan-Ji: "There's blood and sweat". Eh? You bought a building this fast?
Ray: Of course not! A model (toy) building I can buy.
DJ: Oh gosh, bursting out with the gossip. But being a singer, are you interested in being a singer?
Ray: Yes, yes, yes! At that time I have.....
DJ: Has it (acting) faded your interest (in singing)?
Ray: It wouldn't. But honestly, all these years filming only series have wasted it a bit. Have to start practicing again since company have given us such a great opportunity for us to sing so have to start practicing again.
DJ: How about Ron?
Ron: Me? I...what's the question at first?
Lan-Ji: Asked if you like to sing or not.
Ron: I like to sing. Actually in this circle (entertainment) in terms of being known, is connected. Actually, I do have an interest...such as live-stage drama, movies, tv series, singing...all are the same thing. So actually I'm interested in everything.
Lan-Ji: Actually at first he said if there's a chance, he hopes that he can have the chance to be the leading male character.
Ron: I'll try, I'll try...
DJ: You don't get too much money...don't.
Ron: I don't believe it! At first Lan-Ji said it's a lot of money.
Lan-Ji: Just me, back then. Afterwards becaus of my voice, even my salary got more and more weak.
DJ: Ok, so by that time we'll see...cause this time we listen to All About Men, everyone only has one song. Let's see when both of them
Lan-Ji: Will Moses Chan come up?
DJ: Wah! You're laughing at him (about his bad voice)!
Lan-Ji: No I'm not! I like it, I like Moses to come up. We're very close. We go play ball together. Before he came into this career I've already known him, play tennis.
DJ: Okay, thanks (for coming)!
