DJ: Hi Raymond Lam
Ray: Hi Gah-Yin-Jeh [Seet Gah Yeen, a senior actress...she has that big mole in the middle of her forehead]
DJ: You're very busy. You just came back from somewhere, right?
Ray: Just came back from Taiwan...a few days ago.
DJ: So why did you have to go to Taiwan for this time?
Ray: This time I went to Taiwan to promote Twin of Brothers because it will be aired there soon. So go there to promote and see fans.
DJ: What do you think of Taiwan fans?
Ray: Eh, very passionate. Pretty passionate. And also buy a lot of things for you to eat. Because this time I went with Ron...we went there for about a day, a day and a half. So the fans followed us from when we arrived at the airport until we departed from the airport. Every function we did, they followed us. So the feeling is pretty passionate.
DJ: I remember last time with Roger Kwok (Kwok Joon Ngon) & Bobby (Au Yurng Jun Wah) & Jessica Tsuen (Shoon Hoon) went [to Taiwan?]. The fans were also passionate, bought a bunch of things for us to eat.
Ray: Originally, we were going to buy souveniers ourselves. But turns out we didn't.
DJ: Saved (some money)!
Ray: Yeah. When boarding the plane, we had many bags [of things from fans].
DJ: Yeah? Actually pretty happy to see your own fans so fond of you.
Ray: I really thank them.
DJ: Because you just started in a few years time.
Ray: It's been about 5 or 6 years already.
DJ: Oh, really?
Ray: Yes!
DJ: My feeling is that it's been 3 or 4 years.
Ray: 5 or 6 years. I filmed series for about 4 or 5 years.
DJ: What do you think of your own success?
Ray: Eh, actually, so far it has gone really smooth...like before I've acted as extras, I've done it before. But because when I first joined TVB, I was a host for the mandarin station.
DJ: Really? You spoke "Mandarin" [she says the word in Mandarin]?
Ray: "Yes" [he says it in Mandarin]. Because there weren't many people in the company (TVB) that spoke Mandarin, so I had no choice but to go there and help out. So I sometimes get some part-time characters to play with. This went on for a little more than a year. Then I did a special show [probably some travel show] and got a dark tan. And when I came back, suddenly there was a "gom jai" [director? producer? someone...] said that they were looking for someone to play a kid on an island for A Taste of Love & want someone who looks healthy. Then they found me. Afterwards, I haven't stopped filming [series]. Very lucky.
DJ: Very happy. No, because everyone has their own uniqueness. No, your acting is not bad
Ray: Thanks, thanks.
DJ: and you're handsome.
Ray: Thanks, thanks.
DJ: And in addition, the company give you lots of chances.
Ray: Yes
DJ: But I've also heard from many co-workers who worked with you, also feel that you work your best in acting.
Ray: Thanks.
DJ: No, this is a good thing. So you get better really fast
Ray: Actually, I prey that every series I will give myself support and improve. I won't say that this series I have to do "this" good and get awards or anything. But I hope that every series I will continuously improve. I personally keep improving, or if I stop, I could easily move backwards. And I'm pretty lucky that before, I've played a lot of characters that are very different, so I have opportunities in trying different things.
DJ: Yes. This is very important. Like recently, you had a new experience. Which is to come out with an album. Your first time out with the name of "All About Men", [Chinese translation] Man's seduction. How do you feel?
Ray: This time, the company tried a new thing, which is to find 10 themes or subthemes from the series, and together there's 10 singers and also artists [they call actors/actresses artists] to come out with an album. All are males...
DJ: All males? Who do they include?
Ray: Me, Ron Ng, Patrick Tang, Frankie Lam, Kevin Cheng, Eason Chan, Hacken Lee, Moses Chan, and Ekin Cheng, and also Bowie Lam. Ten people.
DJ: If talking about the ten, Frankie sings pretty well. Because I've performed with him before. Then the first time coming out with an alumn is just you and Ron then, is it?
Ray: Eh, yes. Me and Ron.
DJ: Yes. The rest have sang before...
Ray: Moses. Moses also.
DJ: Oh, Moses' first time?
Ray: Yes. Should be.
DJ: Oh!
Ray: But singing, it's not the first for us to sing. Before, we've sang themes or subthemes. Everyone sang before.
DJ: But coming out with an album.
Ray: Coming out with an album, it's just me, Ron, and "Mo" [for Moses, hehe]...should be.
DJ: How do you feel?
Ray: My feeling? Feeling...of course is happy. of the 10 [he means 9], many I've worked with, and personally have seen before. So I actually know all 10 [he means 9]. Sometimes out at functions, the feeling is kind of warm. A bunch of men, but the feeling is kind of warm.
DJ: And very happy, perhaps gathered together, the power is there. To participate, to take in the experience [something like that].
Ray: And everyone's song path/style is different. These are themes [and subthemes], so we have to xxx [meaning is to rely on the style of the series the song is for and sing in that kind of style].
DJ: What series is your song a theme from?
Ray: My song is for Leathal Weapons of Love and Passion. Also a Wong Yik's novel. Changed it to a tv series. I don't know why...three series: A Step Into The Past, Twin of Brothers, and this series...were given to me to film in. Don't know if it's just coincidence or on purpose that someone planned. But this series hasn't been aired yet. The ending should be almost done.
DJ: Who else is in Leathal Weapons of Love and Passion?
Ray: Me and another main character, Bosco (Wong Joong Jahk). There's also Charmaine Sheh and Sonjia Kwok and "sum mun jee" [Sorry, don't know her].
DJ: Can you tell us the description that is related to the theme song?
Ray: This is the subtheme.
DJ: Oh! This is a subtheme.
Ray: Yes, because the theme song is an ancient tv series. So the theme song may be too....ancient style...not too modern. So the subtheme...because subthemes are usually love songs, so the feeling may be better to accept.
DJ: A bit more of a modern feel.
Ray: Yes. But my MV came out as a "mun chaw" [meaning the time period after ancient period, but before the modern period...so it's where females wore braided hair and those Chinese long dresses and stuff] background. The director thinks this fits better.
DJ: So this series is also "mun chaw"...?
Ray: No, no. Ancient series.
DJ: Oh, but filming [MV] using "mun chaw".
Ray: Yes.
DJ: Wow, very special.
Ray: Very special.
