WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS.
Being a professional childminder is a responsible role that involves sharing the responsibilities with parents and their families.  Recognising the prime role that they play in the childrens upbringing. We welcome and listen to parents and families, as they are the experts on their children.
Respect will be shown for family traditions & childcare practice, and our childcare practice will be in harmony with the values, practices and wishes of the parents.
Communication is an important part of our relationship, please feel free to share any questions, feedback, or discussion of any kind that effect a positive outcome for the child.
Sensitive issues will be discussed outside regular hours or by appointment.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT
As professional childminders, we practice behavior management without the use of physical punishment (as per NCMA guidlines). We do not slap, smack, shake, frighten or humilate any child, whether permission is granted or not.
We give clear and consistent boundaries for all the children, giving them praise and encouragement for good behavior, and distracting them or explaining the reasons why something is not allowed (depending on age and understanding). Negative (swearing, and discriminatory remarks) language in our home or outside is not acceptable.
ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINES.
If medication needs to be administered to a child in our care. We are required by the national standards to have written consent to do so. It would also be useful to have the dosage and frequency included in this. We have a seperate medication book with a page for each child, which will be filled in, and signed by Peter or June and witnessed by the parent.
Only the childminder named on the written consent will administer medication to a child. This is a safety measure to avoid double dosage.
Please discuss this with June/Peter before signing consent.
EQUAL OPPERTUNITIES
All children in our care are treated as individuals and are given equal chance to learn and develop, regardless of age. stage of development or need, sex or race, religion or disability, This is done with consideration of their needs.
We encourage the children to have respect for themselves and for others and to appreciate  peoples diversity. We also provide positive images of all different kinds of people, educating children that we are and live in a multifaceted society.
We discourage negative comments or attitudes towards other children or adults who are different in any way.
To promote understanding of other cultures we have a variety of toys and books to provide positive images and educational aspects to the childrens play.
