Welcome to Grandpa's Garden

Grandpa's Garden

This is Grandpa Wood

Grandpa

Although Grandpa passed away, the beauty of his azaleas still lives on.

Azaleas

This is the house that Grandpa built. It is on Long Island, NY.

Azaleas

Every year around Mother's Day, the yard bursts into these beautiful colors.

Azaleas

The blossoms last for about two weeks.

Azaleas

Every year, when they bloomed, Grandma would have us get our picture taken by the azaleas.

I love this picture because it proves at one time I was actually taller than my cousin, Kenny, who is now almost a foot and a half taller than me!

This penny is for Grandpa...

Whenever you see a penny shining on the ground, remember the saying Grandpa taught me:

When I was young, I used to sleep at Grandma and Grandpa Wood's house often. In the morning, Grandpa would wait for me to wake up and walk with him to the Jellybean (a local stationery store) to get the paper, and of course a candy bar or a pack of gum. On the way, we used to stop and pick up pennies, or even nickels, dimes or quarters, of course finding them "heads up" meant we were lucky! This was a hobby of Grandpa's. Walking around the neighborhood, picking up lost (or discarded) change. He never did understand how people would just throw away pennies. He had a wishing well that I made in Girl Scouts made out of a baby food jar and clothespins that he used to keep his findings in. He like to see how much he had found in a year. In later years, he taped a piece of masking tape at the bottom of his cane to make retrieving that change easier for him to pick up, as bending was getting a little tougher in his old age. This is just one of the fond memories I have of Grandpa. There are so many more. Someday I'll share some more with you.
