Try to find this doll in any price guide, any MA catalog and you will fail. 'Chinese New Year' is one of those oddities, a Tuesday Morning exclusive.
TM's doll wears the traditional jacket and pants in ivory satin. The quilted jacket uses gold braiding and green velvet for trim. The plain pants are cuffed in green satin inscribed with oriental patterns. A charming conical cap in matching green, with a gold tassel, perches atop her head. The slippers are green velvet. Tuesday Morning's Chinese New Year is a brown-eyed brunette with the Wendy face. |

Tuesday Morning is a rummage sale of a store. From Wedgewood plates to Wamsutta sheets, Belgian chocolate to Barbies, this store claims anywhere from 50% to 70% off original retail price. A particularly odd place to find Madame Alexander dolls. Ah, but what are those dolls? Very few, at least that I've seen, actually are 'regular line' Alexanders. Most are like 'Chinese New Year', dolls whose costumes have tantalizingly familiar fabrics or cuts. For example, a 8" Tuesday Morning doll named 'Tea Rose' uses a fabric that I would swear adorned a regular line Scarlett O'Hara doll a few years back. Perhaps Tuesday Morning's doll will have a hat, but for the most part accessories are nonexistent. The clothing is tagged 'Madame Alexander' rather than with the doll's name. They come with all the paperwork, but the writing is stamped rather than printed on the box and tag. The Tuesday Morning dolls can be a cute addition to anyone's collection; the expected Madame Alexander quality is present in these 'exclusive' dolls. Value, of course, is in the eye of the collector.
