Japan 2001, Style #28545
Japan represents the elaborate style of the geisha. The outer layer of the kimono is a pale gold embroidered with pink and green flowers and faced with maroon at the collar and cuffs. The inside of the exaggerated sleeves have the same motif, only the appliques are glued rather than stitched. The usual multiple layers of a kimono are implied by two collars, seafoam green and pink embroidered, poking out at the neck. The actual underlayer is a simple white figured tube dress. The dark green sash has an obi attached inscribed with an oriental character. It probably means 'good fortune'; however the doll provides no clue. Japan's thick black hair is rolled on top of the head and stuck with hairpicks and flowers. The doll's Wendy face and straight-legged body is 'painted' white. The face paint has extended corners at the eyes, rosebud lips, and thin straight brows. |
Japan 2001 incorporates the 'new think' at MA; namely the same-year release/retirement plan and included 'traditional' accessories. This geisha came with a small tea set: brazier, kettle, water jar, and tea bowls.
