NFL's Best Shots:
A Century of
Sound and Fury
(1988)
BestShots: video + cdrom
Over the past century, the NFL has provided fans with countless unforgettable images--sights and sounds that have become ingrained in our Football memories. A graceful run by Gale Sayers, a hard-nosed tackle by Dick Butkus, or a heroic comeback by John Elway. We all have our favorite pictures that help enhance our fondest football memories. Now, the best football images of the century are together in one video--NFL's Best Shots: A Century of Sound and Fury. You'll be treated to the greatest football action ever captured on film, from the fast paced struggles in the trenches to the incomparable slow motion runs and catches. And it's all set to the NFL Films' original music scores--classic tunes that have moved football fans for decades. Imagine the tremolo of a violin quavering as a player is poised between immortality and infamy. Or the somber strings of a melancholy cello consoling an old pro. What's more, to guarantee the words are the equal of the music and the pictures, you'll hear the best poetics of the narrator some call the voice of God--John Facenda. Most videos only let you think thoughts. This one frees you to feel feelings. From the gritty anonymity of linemen sweating in the summer camp to the pomp of Super Bowl Sunday, this video takes fans past the obvious into another realm--the heart of the game.

1920-1995 : 75th NFL SEASONS
In 1994 the National Football League celebrated its 75th birthday. Narrated by John Mahoney, 75 Seasons tells the story of professional football in America from 1920 to 1994. The story starts with an interview with Alda Browser of the Canton Bulldogs, the only surviving player from the first professional team. We learn that the pro game lived for years in the shadow of the amateur university contests, and we witness the effect of society upon the game itself; as the men returned from World War II, the NFL evolved into a brutal contest--a battle of men waging war over territory and possession. Compared to being shot and scared senseless, the game of football, though, was fun. Crowds became eager for the game, and athletes such as Johnny Unitas, Jim Brown, Homer Jones in the 1950s, and Joe Namath in the 1960s became football superstars. Joe Montana, Don Shula, and Bill Walsh make insightful observations about the development of the league over the last half of the 20th century, from the style of play to the style of player. This thoroughly absorbing retrospective is a must for football fans to have in their library.

MiamiDolphins SilverSeason 25th PerfectSeason Anniversary
This Video gives a great account of the first 25 years of Miami Dolphins Football. And what great moments. The thrilling OT game with the KC Chiefs! Manny Fernandez intercepting the handoff in a game against Bufallo during the Dolphins undefeated season. Larry Csonka's power running thru his many glory years. The tough loss to the Raiders and the thrilling moments of the San Diego game with the famous hook and lateral. And we can never...ever...forget about the legendary Dan Marino and the fabulous Marx Brothers Duper and Clayton. The interviews with players, coaches, and anyone else affiliated with this great organization, makes this video a must for all Dolphins fans and most football fans.

TheMatchUpOfTheMillemnium:60sGB-70sPIT-80sSF-90sDAL
At long last, all the barroom discussions about which NFL team was the greatest ever finally get settled. Well, sort of. This three-tape video collection fabricates a tournament in which four teams who dominated their era can compete, thanks to a Zelig-meets-the-NFL approach achieved by forays into the vaults of NFL Films and some snazzy and sneaky editing. The Green Bay Packers of the 1960s, coached by Vince Lombardi and quarterbacked by Bart Starr, meet Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and the San Francisco 49ers of the 1980s. In the other preliminary game, the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970s, the bruisers characterized by Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, and the fearsome "Steel Curtain" defense, take on the flashy Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s, a team characterized by Troy Aikman and Deion Sanders. The final blowout between the victors is presented with a wacky sense of humor that perfectly parodies Super Bowl hype, and the outcome is eventually decided by a final play that is literally the stuff of legends. Throughout the videos there are patches of comic relief, much of it provided by an announcing team that includes ESPN's Joe Theismann and Mike Patrick and also features off-the-wall utterances of the late Howard Cosell. These fantasy games won't settle any serious arguments, but they're fun to watch and are a definite treat for those who relish NFL trivia.

NEW YORK GIANTS 75TH ANNIVERSARY
Wonderful Video! This tape makes you realize that the Giants are the flagship franchise of the NFL (if you didn't already know it). The insight into the history and tradition of the franchise will give any Giant fan a feeling of great pride. The tape was very well put together. It gives a history lesson to the younger fan about great days of the past, and it will also bring back fond memories for older fans.

1996 GreenBayPackers XXXISuperBowl Champions
Cheeseheads, rejoice. This video is for those lovable, loyal Packer fans who wear the yellow foam slices of cheese on their heads: a celebration of a marvelous 13-3 regular-season record that culminates in a 35-21 victory over New England in the 1997 Super Bowl. As usual, NFL Films rises to the occasion with an excellent video narrated by the unmistakable voice of Harry Kalas. It not only dissects the Packers' return to glory, it provides insight into the fanatical followers of the only completely publicly owned franchise in the smallest city of pro sports. There is a special relationship between the fans, the city, and the team unlike any other in sports. Beyond that, this video recaps the MVP season of quarterback Brett Favre, the resurrection of washed-up kick-returner Desmond Howard, and the culmination of the highly religious Reggie White's long journey to the NFL promised land. It also examines the marvelous coaching job by Mike Holgrem in overcoming a rash of serious injuries to his wide receivers. In the 1960s, Green Bay became known as "Titletown, USA" during one of the most dominating championship runs in all of sports. It took 29 years for the Pack to make it all the way back. And this celebration is the culmination of that journey. Cheeseheads and all pro-football fans will enjoy reliving the return of the Lombardi Trophy to the town Vince Lombardi made famous.

The Green Bay Packers - The Complete History
History of the Green Bay Packers explores the rich and mythical story of this proud franchise, from its founding days in the Green Bay Press-Gazette building, to its most recent NFL Championship amidst the glitz of New Orleans, to its becoming one of the most beloved sports teams of the new millennium. *The Ice Bowl is generally regarded as the most dramatic game in NFL history, and yet does not fully exist anywhere on network videotape. Utilizing its unique resources, NFL Films painstakingly reconstructed the game and all its subplots from whistle to gun. Thousands of feet of film were catalogued to piece together the game, much of it never broadcast previously.

The Philadelphia Eagles - The Complete History
Well, NFL Films has done it again. Their recent anthology on the Philadelphia Eagles History is a must for any fan of the franchise. There's something for every fan, young and old, given they cover the entire reign of the club from their beginnings in 1933 to the demolition of Veterans Stadium. As a long time fan of the team and their history, I was happy to see first time video on such great players as Pete Pihos, Norm Van Brocklin, Steve Van Buren, Concrete Charlie and such great coaches as Bert Bell, Greasy Neal, Buck Shaw. The DVD set is complete with additional special features including profiles of Wilbert Montgomery, Reggie White, Veterans Stadium, the Fog Bowl...the list goes on and on.

The New York Giants - The Complete History
Another superb NFL Films production. The Giants 1958 and 1986 Championship Games were awesome and exciting. I have viewed the complete History of the NY Giants, Raiders, Cowboys, Packers, & Eagles. I am not a fan of any of thoses teams. But, this production and the others are a must for any NFL FAN. On the bonus disc where as a half dozen retired players are interviewed, Some of the interviews were to short. The Pat Summerall interview will touch your heart. Concerning all 5 teams I've watched, the bonus disc interviews all have some that seem to short. In addition, I feel there could have been another half dozen past players interviewed and added. I'm Very Happy with this purchase and all the other team purchases and I'm sure whomever is reading this and buys any of these will be very pleased with what you get. Myself being an Avid NFL fan for about 50 years, I've seen a tremendous amount of film footage. With these Team History Productions, it seems you get the best of the best footage, along with the memories that go with them.
