| Dole Middle School has four performing groups that participates in over 25 performances a year. Check out our Calendar of Events for a list of dates and times of public appearances. BAND I - BEGINNING BAND: This program is open to first year students at Dole Middle School in grades 7 and 8. Dole Middle School averages 120 beginners every year. The main focus is on fundamentals, note reading, dicipline, responsibility, teamwork, and more. SELECT BEGINNING BAND: This program is an extension of Band I where selected students, from 5 different beginning band classes, form a performing group, which rehearses after school on Wednesdays. Performances include Orientation, Parade of Bands, and the annual Spring Concert. BAND II - ADVANCED BAND: This program is for second year students that have successfully completed the training of beginning band. A few students may have started band at Kapalama, Kalihi Uka, or another elementary school that offer band. Enrollment in Band II varies, but usually over 80 students make up our band. JAZZ ENSEMBLE: This program is an extension of our entire band program and mainly for second year students. The class meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 7:20 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. before school. Popular jazz selections include: swing charts, rock, latin, etc. Public performances by this group include: Ala Moana, Pearl Ridge, Windward Mall, Aloha Tower, Nanakuli High and Intermediate, Waianae Intermediate, Parade of Stage Bands, and the Honolulu District PRAISE Music Festival. MARCHING BAND: This program is another extension of our band program. Combining the talents of both 7th and 8th grade band students allows us to march with 120 students. Dole is one of only a few middle schools to field a marching band. Past parades include Kalihi Business Association Christmas Parade, Honolulu City Lights Parade, Nike Fun Run Parade in Waikiki, Bishop Museum, Lions International Convention Parade in Waikiki, 100th Anniversary Okinawan Parade at Aloha Tower, Kamehameha Shopping Center Easter Parade, Kuhio Park Terrace Christmas Parade, and the Lima Street Ohana Parade. |
