Mam |

|
|
Born in 1950 to Florence Williams in Flint. Margaret was the third of four children to be born. She had an exciting childhood, although the family suffered some real hardships, we are talking holes in your knickers, no socks or shoes. But somehow these things always came across as being annoyances rather than huge problems. She had one really good friend called Marilyn, who sadly died in 1992. My mam wasn't very good at school, she hated it. She didn't like being told what to do, she also hated it because they wouldn't let her write with her left hand. they would tie her left hand behind her back and try and make her write with her right hand which she could not do, so she got the cane. Her dad was never around, or he would turn up get drunk and get thrown out again, apparently he always had someone else on the go. He died in 1994 his name was Frederick Williams, the way my mam seen it he abandoned her. I don't have any photographs of my mam when she was a child, but here are some of the earliest I have in my posession.......... |

My mam was brilliant at sewing, here she is with my dad in 1982 at a fancy dress party. My mam made the costumes from scratch. If you don't know they are Worzel Gummidge and Aunt Sally. They won first prize!! |

This shot was take in 1984. My mam is on her way to hear Arthur Scargill ( leader of the N.U.M.) speak in Wrexham. Sitting next to her was a close friend - Dee Bardgielowski. They lost touch when my mam and dad divorced. My mam was an active member of the Point of Ayr family support group that was set up during the strike she raised funds from abroad, but especially from London, the S.O.G.A.T. trade union were a huge help during that time. We made some very good friends too. My mam changed during that strike she became much stronger, and purposeful. Thanks to the friends we made in Fleet Street one of the in particular managed to find a job in Harlow, Essex. My mam and dad applied, my mam got the job. Things were about to change. Within six months they had divorced, my mam had a boyfriend my dad's interest in our lives was waneing. |

This photograph was taken in 1992. Defyn, 2 years old. Conor was a week old, and my mam. she was 42. Mam had literally just come out of hospital after having a hysterectomy. This is when we knew she had Ovarian Cancer. She was thin, and weak but grateful to be alive. I pressured her into having this photograph as I was convinced it would be the only one that my children would have with their nana. |

We were able to enjoy some very precious years with my mam, this photograph was taken in 1993. The cancer had gone into remission. Conor is sitting on her lap. One of my favorite photo's. We were living back in Flint by now my mam said that she wanted to die at home, unfortunately it was a reality we did not want to face. She said she wasn't scared of death, becuase that's where her mam is, but she was scared of the pain of dying. |
