Anyone is welcome to perform these songs in public without royalties; however, if any of them are recorded or published for profit, the writers/composers expect the usual royalties.

SONG CHALLENGE WINNER!

The Song Challenge:   Since jeffp has already submitted a wonderful Valentine's Day song for the Mudcat Songbook today, I was stuck for a good challenge.   Then, I took my youngest ones to the grocery store and had to again refuse to buy them a certain sugary cereal.  But, and blame it on the Muzak brain-fry, I got an idea!   Here 'tis -- write a song using the shapes from the Lucky Charms cereal:  pink hearts, crescent moons, yellow stars, beautiful rainbows, red balloons, green clovers, and fluffy marshmellows!

Que Están, Están by SharonA
(Tune: "Que Será, Será" by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, performed by Doris Day)

SharonA's Comments:  I knew that all those high-school Spanish classes would come in handy someday. . . (Actually, the literal translation of the title would be:   "What they are, they are". The idiom may be incorrect as well, it's been a while since high school.)

When I ate tons of Lucky Charms,
I'd ask my mother, "What can these be?
What are these gritty marshmallow pits?"
Here's what she said to me:

"Que están, están! Whatever they be, they be!
They're not like what's on TV.
Que están, están! What they be, they be!"

Well, I was just a child, a tool
Of advertisers; their trade they'd ply
With cartoon pictures, with catchy songs.
I'd whine till Mom would buy.

Que están, están! Whatever they be, they be!
The lepre-"con" lied to me.
Que están, están! What they be, they be!

His "Charms" flew upward, swelled with fluff.
Mine lay deflated, like they were dead.
"Why don't my rainbows sway?" I would say
As they danced in my head.

Que están, están! Whatever they be, they be!
Ads ain't like reality.
Que están, están! What they be, they be!

If I had children of my own,
They'd ask their mother, "What can these be?
We didn't want some marshmallow grits."
I'd tell them testily:

"Que están, están! Whatever they be, they be!
You begged for 'em; eat 'em, see?!.
Que están, están! What they be, they be!
Que están, están!"
