Threaded Disscusion 2
The Athenian government first started out as a monarchy.  Then around 700 B.C. it   changed into an Aristocracy.  As an aristocracy they were ruled by wealthy landowners.  The land owners chose chief officials and judged in major chases were the majority of the assembly.  During this time there were taxes on foreign goods, made slaves out of debtors, did not give citizenship to foreigners.  Then 106 years after the start of the aristocracy was started a man named Solon brought forth democracy. Solon banned debt slavery, gave citizenship to so foreigners, gave the citizen more spots in the higher offices, and allowed the assemble to have more power in making important decisions.  The United States government is democracy.  The people have a say in what happens in our government.  Each state has an elected official that represents that state in Washington D.C.  Then there are two many political parties the Democrats and Republicans.  Each law voted on by all the state representatives. The people have the choice on what official they want to represent them and who they want as President of the United States.  And citizens are allowed to hold governmental offices.  The U.S. government and Athenian government are some what similar.  Both governments allow foreigners to apply for citizenship. Both allowed and allow citizens to have government type jobs.  Both didnt and dont allow debt slavery.  The U.S. government allows its people to vote and the Athenian government didnt.  Women have rights in the U.S. government and would not in the Athenian government.  And both governments were governments made by the people and for the people.

I agree with Belals statements on this article.  He has talked about many good points in this article. He made some really great points on how the U.S government and Athenian government were alike.  One point that he made that was interesting was that both governments did not allow women to become citizens and couldnt vote and how he mentioned that that changed in the U.S government in the 1920s.  He allows made a good point on how both governments did allow slaves to become citizens.  Another point that I agree with is that Pericles started democracy when he wanted the people to be able to vote for there officials.

The Athenian government is the back bone of the U.S government.  Its what the founding fathers based our government on.  It is the basis of all democratic governments.  The Athenian government has taught many people about origin of all governments.  In one way or another it has helped create all governments.  Belal is right about both governments being for the people.  Belal is right about both governments being surprisingly similar many ways.  The Athenian government has taught us a lot of things about our government today and maybe the governments to come.  I also believe that the founding father of all governments is Pericles.  And that the Athenian government has been the first government that was ruled the most successfully and efficiently.  And I believe that Belal has made a lot of really good points in his article and I have learned some things that I didnt know from this respons.
