Medieval Europe�s guild�s and today�s workers union have many similarities. Both the guild�s and the workers union were setup to protect the merchants, artists and other workers. They were created to make sure that workers wouldn�t and won�t get mistreated, taken advantage of, and got help if they got hurt. Just like the worker unions of today many guilds protested against the wealthier class or the people that ran the business. Like in the guilds of medieval ages and in the workers union of today women were allowed to join them.
But for the guilds in order to become a member to had to be an apprentice before you could join the guild and you don�t have to be an apprentice to join the workers union.
