The Reign of Terror begins (1793)

committee of public safety- This was a committee that wanted more safety for the public.

Jacobins- Lawyers of the middleclass.

Republic of virtue- a republic of virtue is a republic that had dis-beliefs in the church.

Justification of extreme violence- Due to the kings execution people began to have violent outburst.

revolutionary tribunal- A funeral for King Henry.

How many dead?- Millions upon millions of people were killed

The National Convention abolishes the monarchy (1792)

The War of the First Coalition is fought (1792-1797)- During 1792-1797 the first coalition fighters went to war.

lev'ee en masse- A monarch that wanted freedom from France.

coalition- A coalition is a group or mob of people that want to take over a high ruling government official.

French military victories- Thanks to France extremely strong army they were able to win many battles and be the military power house of their time.

Treaty of Basel- This treaty allowed peasants to obtain good jobs.

The Thermidorean Reaction ends the Reign of Terror (1794)

9 Thermidor- The ninth therminador was the thiminator before the 10th

guillotine- The guillotine was a machine used for execution.  This machine would decapitate the person.



The National Convention drafts the Constitution of 1795 (1795)

Who controlled it?- The king and queen of France controlled it.

How was it controlled?- It was controlled by the government and the army.

Council of Elders- This was a council of elders in the French government.

Dissolving of the National Convention- The National Convention was made less important.

The Directory begins to rule France(1795-1799)

financial crisis- The French government had to sell land in order for the country to regain money.

corruption- With the loss of so much money the French government was full of corruption.

exhaustion- this is when a country runs out of money like France during this time.

army- An army is a group of trained men and women that fight for a specific country.
