Honda wanted to celebrate the dawn of a new millennium by building an
exceptional model which was both realistic and affordable. The S2000 is a
roadster devoted exclusively to pure performance in all its shapes and forms.
Its objective is to provide maximum driving pleasure.
Even more power. Even more clean-burning. With those as
goals, the 2-liter, inline-4 carries an impressive load of specs. Extremely
high 11.7 compression ratio, Japan's 2000 smog law compliant, rev-limit at
9,000rpm, 250ps/8,300rpm..
Model Range
The S2000 is a 2-seat roadster available in a single trim and powered by a
2.0-liter, 250-hp, VTEC, 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual
transmission.
Technical Features
The S2000 has an hybrid unitized body that integrates an X-bone frame to give it
the same rigidity in torsion and flexion as a conventional hard top car without
increasing overall weight. The fully independent suspension features a double
wishbone with coil springs in front and multi-arms in the rear. Both systems set
themselves apart by having their joints positioned inside the wheel wells. They
are completed by stabilizer bars and gas struts. The four-wheel disc brakes are
fitted with standard ABS. The rack-and-pinion steering is electrically assisted
and constitutes one of the first applications of this recently developed
technology. At the heart of the S2000 lies its 2.0-liter VTEC 4-cylinder engine,
which is typically Honda in design and cranks out an amazing 125 horsepower per
liter of displacement. Another feature that sets the S2000 roadster in a class
all its own is red, i.e., the infamous large button that is used to start the
engine once the key has been inserted in the ignition, just like in a racing
car.
