Honda Prelude VTEC 1992-1996

If your looking in the market for a quick Prelude or want a base to start from, the VTEC model cannot be overlooked.  Factory figures indicate a very healthy 195bhp @ 6800rpm for the VTEC model compared to the SI's 160bhp @ 5800rpm, so spending a little more for 35bhp power increase is worth every cent. With a simple addition of 17inch wheels and lowered suspension the vehicle's aggressive looks really take shape.  In true Honda style the Prelude's interior is very wellappointed, featuring a  very trick semi-digital dash.  The front seats are firm, but a pair of RacePros, Autosports seats would make all the difference, especially when that VTEC's howling through the twisty bits.

Engine Modifications

The 2.2 engine works hard but lacks the free-revving nature of its 1.6 and 1.8 Civic and Integra counterparts. Although makes good power and torque at low RPMs below the VTEC point,  the engine will respond well to simple modifications.

Freeing up the Intake and exhaust systems is a good place to start.Replacement of the Airfilter and Exhaust system are mandortory mods for the Prelude.  Some polished Headers and a Jackson Racing exhaust.  Weather you opt for a replacment filter for the standard air-box or a bolt-on item these are both available from the leading suppliers.  K&N, Uni Filter, Jamex and Finer filters are all available for the car. A good set of Leads and Plugs will provide a cleaner and reliable spark. Following that lowering the VTEC point to around 4200rpm's with a VTEC controller can make a noticeable difference, more so than on the smaller VTEC power plants.
