"Odd Dogs"
Some dogs just don't like indoor  training
Pages on this site
Despite what people think, not all dogs do well in a class environment. These can be from all types of breed and gender. The quiet but highly strung "type" of dog definitely does not do well in a class atmosphere. Unfortunately it is not always obvious that a dog does not "fit in" until after a few weeks have passed. Then it is up to the trainers to tell the owners that, for the dogs sake, it is best to train at home and outside. This should be under the supervision of a trainer on a one-to-one basis, or by keeping in touch by telephone with the club they attended.

Odd dogs can be (commonly known as a hard breed) German Shepherds, Dobermans and Rottweilers. The more "intelligent" breed such as Border Collies, can also be very sensitive to sounds and fast movement in a club surroundings.
Of course this does not apply to all individuals of the breeds and many do well in class environments.

For owners who are not sure how their dog will react, it is advisable to check with the trainers at their chosen club and, perhaps, sit in with the dog for a couple of weeks, before embarking on a course.

Most clubs should allow you to do this, if not - look elsewhere.
