SPRING TOUR 2004

Thanks to all those who made it out to see DOGSTOOTH and friends gig this spring tour.
The gig at the Vault in Waltham Cross(sat apr 17) stands out as the most memorable.
DOGSTOOTH did 2 sets and managed to get the stunned locals headbanging enthusiastically. They opened their first set with '
Revolution #2' which is in drop D tuning, pure pub metal. They continued in this style with the bishop-bashing  'Find me a Priest'. Jon even managed to get airborne a few times before kicking in with one of the riffs he's borrowed from Iron Maiden. Speedrock was the next style to be plundered as  they faded into 'Alien Culture'. This track is alot more accessable, and reminded me of The Ruts. Paul spat out the vocals for 'Dumb Insolence' and after a speedrock version of  Black Knight by Deep Purple they finished their first set with 'Broken Home'. This is a sad song which starts off slow then gets faster and faster and got the most enthusiastic response of the evening so far.
Set 2 kicked off with Jon on solo guitar and tambourine, joined by Paul with speed reggae break beat drums, then Huxley unleashed 700watts of bassline. This track was
'Thrill of the Risk' and although only 3 minutes long, it goes from light jingle jangle guitar to full on ACDC riffing Rock. 'Bullets of Rage' was their next tune and one of their heaviest. I particularly liked the switched morse code style feedback. 'The Art of Dying' was a nice psychedelic thrash type of tune with bucket loads of phaser on guitar, it was only 3 minutes long but made a welcome change from their usual speedrock. Then they got all mean and moody  with 'The Legacy'. This track is unlike any other, it doesn't hammer you into submission, there's no singing, just what I would describe as pure haunting  atmosphere, It reminded me of Pink Floyd, and after a slow and soulful guitar solo ended with big stereo echoes swirling round the pub.
     The penultimate track was
'Revolution#3' with a slow bluesy intro melting into fast stabby speed metal, this song must be well over 7 minutes long and  seems like 2 seperate songs joined together, starting of slow and then getting fast was a good idea cos it gave everyone a chance to get their breath back.Their last song was 'Alien Culture' which they had already done in the first set. Maybe they didn't have enough material or just wanted to do it again, I dunno which. The punters didn't seem to mind, as they were blasted with a full on speedrock version of one of DOGSTOOTH best songs.
It was all over way too soon, but they managed to win some new friends and fans in Waltham Cross.

Can't wait til the next one. PJ

DOGSTOOTH would like to thank Matt, Dario, Andrea and Andy, friends of the band who travelled up to the gig and who made it all worthwhile.    C U next time.
                                777-thy will,not mine.
