March 31st, 2007,
A Day when the Citizens of Bangalore protested the '
Slaughter of the Dogs'!
A Rally was called for by Ms. Radhika Badami and Lovers of Dogs of Bangalore,
through Phone and SMS. It wasn't what you would say very large, but
at the same time was filled with true dedicated people. All ages made up the
group, from tiny toddlers, school and college kids, to working young adults
through middle age, ending with senior citizens and retired professionals.
All 'blue-eyed' champions for the 'Street Dogs', a soon to be extinct species
of Bangalore.
This was organized by the 'people' and not by any particular 'NGO'! or
Non Government Organization!.
They all gathered in the blazing hot sun at the 'Gandhi Park
' on Mahatma Gandhi Road (Cubbon Park end), and put up a few banners, a
proclamation was read out, some 'Swamiji's' joined the crowd. Some 'dogs'
even were encouraged to join in the march. Many people from all walks of
life made their presence felt.
The 'procession' marched down Kasturba Road, past the antiquated
Cubbon Police Station, past the Museum till the end where Vittal Mallaya
Road joined this road.
The procession proceeded across onto the Kantaveer Stadium
Road, where it stopped for a breather and some pep talk in the shade.
The next stop was supposed to be
the Corporation Offices, but this did not take place and the
protesters were herded out of the premises.
Finally, the protesters aligned themselves on the steps of the Sir Puttannachetty
Town Hall, where there were ample visuals displayed, some talks
were made, another Swamiji gave a very long endearing talk holding a dog in
his arms, and around 3:45 p.m. or was it 4:15 p.m. that the crowd dispersed.
Click Here for a Complete Collection
of the photographs taken along the way, covering the various stretches
can be seen on and if you are a dog lover, you may freely use these
pics. If others also have pictures loaded on the Net and would like to have
them linked, please send me the details and I shall do the needful.
Just an Observance: Strange, when there was a protest against 'butcheries'
and 'slaughter of cows' and 'KFC' killing of the 'chickens' , there
was a very large crowd of genuine and hooligans, but when these dogs, who
are also 'animals', were being killed, not a whimper from these same people.
Politics, and Reality go hand in hand, and you can really see who are the
genuine people and who are not.

Cheers, sorry about the delay on the release of this webpage. I was waiting
to get the bulk pictures loaded into Yahoo! first.
