SPAYING AND NEUTERING YOUR PET
Studies indicate that spaying and neutering your pet at a young age may reduce the risk of cancer. Females do not need to have their first heat or have puppies before being spayed. If you let her have her first heat or a litter of puppies you may be increasing her risk of cancer.
Many veterinarians believe in early spay/neuter. Puppies and kittens can be done as early as 8 weeks old with no ill effects. It's been proven to be safe and even easier on the animals when they are spayed/neutered this young. Do not take a risk of your pet becoming pregnant. Just look how many cute puppies and kittens are being destroyed daily at your local pound because there just aren't enough homes.
Don't even get me started on the people who say that they want their children to experience the miracle of birth. Go rent a video at the library for goodness sake. If you feel your children must experience animal birth first hand than complete the experience. Take them to the dog pound to witness the death of unwanted puppies and kittens because of all the people who insisted their pets give birth so their children can witness it.
If you want your pet to have babies because you think it would be cute to have the little ones running around than go rescue a litter of puppies or kittens from the pound instead. They need homes.
