We're the Saginaw Flotilla 15-05, 9th Central Region, of the
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary!

Join the Coast Guard Auxiliary, we're America's Volunteer Lifesavers!!

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, non-military component of the United States Coast Guard. There are approximately 27,000 volunteer members throughout the United States. We are part of the Coast Guard Team, created by an act of Congress in 1939. In 2009, we will celebrate our 70th Anniversary!!

Each year, Coast Guard Auxiliarists:
  • Save almost 500 lives
  • Fly 1,600 air patrols
  • Operate over 2,300 radio stations
  • Assist over 11,000 boaters in distress
  • Conduct 29,000 safety patrols
  • Perform almost 200,000 Vessel Safety Checks (VSCs)
  • Educate over 500,000 students in boating safety classes
  • Train 45,000 hours to develop personal skills.

    • Would you like to take a Boating Safety Class??

    Our public education classes consist of a one-day class, entitled "America's Boating Course." Each class begins promptly at 8 a.m. and will runs until approximately 5:00 p.m. There is a scheduled lunch break. (Lunch on your own.) Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost for the class is $40 for a textbook and CD-ROM (yours to keep) with excellent, free instruction provided by trained members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The class is taught from start to finish, all in one day! Very quick and convenient! Students will be awarded a Boating Safety Certificate upon successful completion of the course and examination.

    2008 class schedule was:

  • Saturday, March 22, at Saginaw Township Fire Station #1, 6171 Shattuck Road, near Lawndale Road.
  • Saturday, April 12, at Saginaw Township Fire Station #1, 6171 Shattuck Road, near Lawndale Road.

We normally teach only two one-day classes, and those will be the only two classes offered in the Saginaw area this spring; please pre-register early, as class size is limited!

    The Coast Guard Auxiliary is comprised of Districts, Divisions and Flotillas. As a group, we make up the National Coast Guard Auxiliary. There are five flotillas in our Division. There are 11 Divisions in our District, the 9th Central Region, which is located mostly in Michigan, but extends south into Ohio and Indiana and west into Wisconsin and Minnesota. Our division has approximately 80 members.

    Our flotilla currently has 15 members, and we're always looking for more! If you'd like more information about who we are and what we do, please continue reading...if you'd like one of us to contact you regarding membership in this elite volunteer organization, please e-mail us!

    We have monthly meetings at Coast Guard Station Saginaw River, the 2nd Thursday of each month, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

    Our flotilla is very active in the "four cornerstones" -- Public Education, Patrols, Vessel Safety Checks and Fellowship.
