Chapter VI

'Rey quickly learned that his traveling cage was not the only thing Viridastus could escape from. Each morning she awoke with a drakkin hatchling at her feet, no matter how she tried to keep him in his cavern at night. She also learned to get used to the bugs he had released; despite his avid hunting of them, they still seemed to multiply into the thousands.

This was evidenced one morning about a week after she had brought Viri home; she sat down in the kitchen for breakfast, attempted to pour her cereal, and out plopped a large number of ugly, blind beetle, who quickly scuttled away. Not before 'Rey had thrown herself onto the floor away from the offending cereal bowl, and shrieked bloody murder.

Viri, unfazed by her cries of horror, leapt agilely onto the counter and happily pounced what he could catch, snarling fiercely and chomping then between his sharp little teeth, looking to 'Rey with delight.
