Bichon Frise

Origin: France/Belgium

GENERAL APPEARANCE:
The Bichon Frise is a small, sturdy, white powder puff of a dog whose merry temperament is evidenced by a plumed tail carried jauntily over the back and a dark-eyed inquisitive expression.

SIZE:
Adults should measure between 9 1/2 inches (24.36cm) and 11 1/2 inches (29.4cm) at the shoulder. Usually the female is slightly smaller than the male. The bichon is a compact dog.

TEMPERAMENT:
Although they are small dogs, they are big on personality. They have a white silky coat, which is soft. Bichon's are extremely intelligent, and they are affectionate towards people. They are very easily trained. They are excellent for protecting your home despite their size, and they will bark at strangers. Of course, the problem is that not many people would fear them as once the person enters, they are friendly with them.

HEAD AND EXPRESSION:
The eyes should be large and dark brown or black. Surrounding the eye is a black or very dark brown pigment, called a halo. The eye rims are black. The ears hand loosely on the side of the head just above eye level. The nose is always black. The lips are black as well, and are never drooping.

COAT:
The undercoat is soft and dense, while the outercoat is of a coarser and curlier texture. The coat color is white, but some shading of buff, cream, or apricot around the ears or on the body is also normal.
