Go for a walk in the park or around your neighborhood. Pay attention to what's around you. Try to notice something you have never noticed before. What does noticing something new do to shake-up your ordinary perception?

A long time ago I started paying attention to graffiti.
While visiting a friend in Seattle, Washington I noticed "petco" written on a wooden post. There was something really jarring about this. Having lived in New York my entire life I've seen Petco plenty, but this was on the opposite side of the country. Later my friend pointed out something sprawled on the bottom of an electrical box. She said it spelt "van", or maybe "vanh", I don't exactly remember exactly what she said, though she explained that they only write on the bottom of electrical boxes and curbs.

Go for another walk, but this time, ask: what stories would the things around me tell, if they could speak? Think deeply about this, and really try to imagine the other sort of mind. What would a rock/tree/building experience in terms of characterstics of taste, time, space, color, form, interest, and so on?
