Dog Bed
Which dog bed is the
right one for your dog?
If you look out on the internet right now, you can find a mind-blowing
amount of sites where you can buy dog beds. Therefore, the first thing
you need to think of is your pooch. What size is your dog? Does he or
she need a large dog bed? Alternatively, maybe you want the dog bed to
fit in with the décor of the house. Then a designer dog bed
would be the match for you.
What to look for in
material for your dog’s bed.
Solid Foam Filler
Most
bed filler is either made from a solid foam inner to a stuffing. Think
about the quality of the bed you are looking for. An inexpensive solid
foam inner will eventually settle and not be as soft. A high quality
solid foam bed is a good choice when you need a large dog bed,
providing your dog is in good health. If arthritis bothers your dog,
then an orthopedic dog bed would be the right choice.
When choosing a solid foam dog bed, keep two items in mind. First is
the density of the bed. This means the spring in the foam, allowing it
to mold back into its original shape. The second is the firmness, and
here you are looking to see how soft or hard the bed is.
Stuffing Filler
The
best filler in this category is the Poly-fill stuffing. The principles
applied are not just for luxury dog beds, even though it sounds fancy.
The way that these dog beds are stuffed is similar to how a sleeping
bag is stuffed. The little pieces of foam are stuffed into the dog bed
to make a soft cushion. The better Poly-fill dog beds have baffling
inside that act like soft walls to prevent the stuffing from pushing to
the edges when your dog lies down. Many designer dog beds are made from
this material.
Dog bed covers
The
dog bed cover that you want to use should have a zipper in order to
take the foam out when it is time to do the wash. The material should
be able to withstand sharp toenails hopefully be chew proof.
How does your dog sleep?
Keep
track of how your pooch sleeps. Do they stretch out or curl up? Does
your dog like to sleep in the living room during the day and in the
bedroom at night? Remember, most dogs like to sleep where you are. Be
sure also to take into account for the growth of your dog. Some
suggestions would be to buy a large dog bed even if your dog is not a
great dane, to compensate for their growth.
A designer dog bed might be suitable for a bed in the living room,
which would match well with the furniture. If you have a sunroom, a
luxury dog bed would help your dog chase kitties in its dreams, while
warming under the sun.
If your dog stretches out while sleeping, than a large dog bed or a
luxury dog bed would be the bed to consider. If your dog tends to curl
up when sleeping or sleeps next to walls or objects than a donut or
cuddler dog bed would be best.
Orthopedic dog beds
Although
it is unfortunate, some dogs suffer from arthritis or hip dysplasia.
For these special needs, there are orthopedic dog beds that have memory
foam stuffing. That’s right, the material made for NASA is
now in your dog’s bed. The memory foam does not allow
pressure points to build when lying on the bed. The foam pushes back
against the pressure that is pushing down. There are other orthopedic
dog beds are on the market, however, they are not as high a quality.
They include, spring mattresses, solid foam mattresses, and Poly-fill
mattresses.
No matter if your looking for
large dog beds, luxury
dog bed, designer
or orthopedic dog beds,
it all comes down to what is best for your canine friend. Consider
their needs first and what habits they have before going out and
picking up the first dog bed you find. In addition, don’t
take your dog to a store and have them try several out. With all the
smells, sights, and sounds all around them it will be unlikely that
they will be able to choose a dog bed, let alone lay down on one.
