Thank you for downloading a layout through layoutland.net. This help file will help you with everything you need to know about setting up and using your new layout.

Things You Need

You will need a few things to customize your new layout:

An HTML program - to add text to your site and create all of your subpages.
A graphics program - to create graphics for your site, add text to buttons/banners, etc.
A host - a place in the web where you can create your site and upload your files and webpage.

Editing and Customizing the Layout

* If you already have a webpage on your computer, you may want to move the layout file and images to the same folder as your current webpage. *

  1. Open the layout file (the HTML file) in your HTML program.
  2. If you don't already have all of your subpages set up, create them on new pages and save them.
  3. In the layout file (the HTML file) add all of the links to your subpages.
  4. If the layout uses iframes or frames, make sure you target your links to the correct frame.
  5. If the layout uses iframes or frames, open the NOTE.HTM page. This is the welcome page that your visitors will see when they first go to your site. Add all of your welcome information here.
  6. If the layout uses tables, enter all of your welcome information where it says "ENTER WELCOME PAGE TEXT HERE".
  7. Once you've modified the layout, save it and upload it to your site.

Helpful Tips:

Get an HTML program

There are plenty of HTML programs around, which allow beginners and advanced website designers to customize their site. The screen and setup is easy to understand so you can create a website without staring at weird HTML codes and text the whole time. Some simple HTML programs are free. For layoutland.net's layouts, you really just need a simple, free html program.

Get a graphics program

A graphics program will come in handy if you want to customize the look of your graphics, like adding text or images to them. The free graphics program will help you do the basics. If you are looking for a graphics program that will help you with designing your own layouts, buttons, and webpage elements, I would recommend Fireworks. For photo editing and other graphic needs, I would use Paint Shop Pro.

Get a Host

A host is a site or server that will be the internet home for your site. This is the place that you will upload all of your html and graphic files to. If you have a relatively small site with not too much traffic, a free host is probably your best bet. Make sure your host allows you to upload images through their site or through FTP.

geocities.com

angelfire.com

virtue.nu

If you would like your own domain name (.com, .net, etc) then I would recommend getting a paid host. Most hosts are reasonably priced.
