In a desperate bid to regenerate his amputated right arm, Dr. Curtis Connors injected himself with an experimental, reptile-based formula. The serum accomplished its aim, but at the expense of Connors' humanity: The scientist stood transformed into the reptile-human hybrid called the Lizard. Primitive and cunning, the savage serpent awaits his chance to supplant humankind with reptile-kind!

Real name: Dr. Curtis Connors
Occupation: Research technologist, former Army surgeon
Group affiliation: None
Base of operations: New York City; formerly West Palm Beach, Florida
First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #6 (1963)

Height: 5'11"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Eye color: Blue as Connors, red as Lizard
Hair color: Brown as Connors, none as Lizard

Powers:
The Lizard possesses a number of superhuman attributes, including enhanced strength. His powerful leg muscles enable him to clear 12 feet in a standing high jump and 18 feet in a standing broad jump. The Lizard's alligator-like hide is tougher than human skin and capable of resisting the penetration of small-caliber bullets, and his reaction time is twice as fast as that of an average person. The Lizard can run at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour and whip his tail at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. His hands and feet are covered with scores of tiny claws that create adhesive pads like those of a gecko lizard, allowing him to scale sheer surfaces. The Lizard's limited telepathy enables him to communicate mentally with and command reptiles in a 1-mile radius.

Like all reptiles, the Lizard is cold-blooded and therefore extremely sensitive to drops in temperature. Consequently, a sufficiently cold environment will cause his metabolism to slow drastically and become dormant.

Weapons: Dr. Curtis Connors employs a variety of scientific apparatus in his research, particularly those items necessary for biochemistry.

History: Physician, heal thyself: Dr. Curtis Connors lost his right arm while serving his country as an Army surgeon. Also a brilliant herpetologist, a desperate Connors became convinced he could apply his studies into certain reptiles' regenerative abilities to human physiology as a means of regaining his severed limb.

Isolating the reptile enzyme responsible for regrowth, he injected himself with an experimental formula of his own creation. The serum restored Connors' missing arm -- but also triggered a horrific, body-wide mutation that transformed the hapless scientist into a savage, humanoid reptile calling itself the Lizard.

Possessed of a primitive but cunning reptilian mind, the Lizard intended to gather a reptile army that would supplant humanity as Earth's ruling species. But the wisecracking, web-slinging super hero known as Spider-Man put down the Lizard's coup, using Connors' chemicals and scientific knowledge to create a serum that reversed the original formula's effects.

Though Connors has aided the wall-crawler and other adventurers on occasion, the mutations the serum enacted remain part of the scientist's genetic makeup. Connors has gone long periods without transforming into his reptilian alter ego, but never has been able to fully free himself from the curse of the Lizard. At times, his mind has presided over the savage serpent. However, the Lizard's bestial nature always has returned to the fore. In fact, the reptilian persona seems to be awake in Connors' subconscious, hinting at a larger agenda for the world and humanity than previously suspected.
