If you see the object at the opening of the ear you can sometimes grasp it with your fingers or tweezers and remove it. Ifyou think your dog has a foreign object in his or her ear but you can't get to a veterinarian right away, a few drops ofmineral or baby oil placed in the ear and massaged around will often soften the object sufficiently to relieve the signs ofotitis externa (tilting of head, scratching at ear) until the object can be removed by a veterianarian. You can prevent foreign objects from getting in the ears by putting cotton wads firmly in the dog's ears. Back to Main Page |
