Fact and Fiction about Chinese Kung Fu
A: Was there really a person named Wong Fei Hong?
Q: Yes, Wong Fei Hong is now a folk hero legend in China, and although  the original real person was less heroic than portrayed in the movies, he's the  one who developed the "drunken master" style (where the fighter acts like he's  drunk), and invented forms for fighting with a bar bench and a steel umbrella  which unfortunately were both lost through the years.
A: Do you really obey all the strict rules in a real fight?
Q: Not at all. Kung fu has no strict rules, and everything that can  give you an edge over the opponent is fair. This is a difference from most other  martial arts who forbid certain moves, demand a certain uniform to be worn,  etc.
Q: Do you actually use all these animal styles in a real fight?
A: No, it all looks a lot less stylish in a real fight. If we were to  use all the animal mimicking moves in a real fight, it might interrupt the flow  of our movement. but after many years of practice, your body is conditioned to  execute each move in an effective way, which usually has at least some of the  "heart" of the original stylized movement.
Q: Do masters really know how to use just about any weapon they get  their hands on?
A: This is actually true. One of kung fu's characteristics is  mastering a lot more than one weapon. The reason is that in ancient times the  costume was that the challenger to a fight was allowed to pick the kind of  weapons that will be used in the fight. If the challenged fighter knew this  weapon's techniques he had a better chance to win.
my personal background
I studied Kung Fu (Hung Gar style) for 8 years from sifu Udi Ra'anan,
and Tai chi (Yang style) and Chi Kung for 4 years from sifu Tal Boneh.
(above) pictures of forms that I've studied. thanks to the website http://www.taiji.de/ for the pictures!
training weapons I have at home include:
Shien (straight Tai Chi sword) and Dao (Kung Fu broad sword). Oh, and I also  have a steel fan. The pictures I put here aren't the exact models that I own,  but they were so cool I couldn't resist :-)
"Green Destiny" (the sword from "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon") replica and  9 rings sword
