Dean E. Doering was born in East Cleveland, Ohio, on 2 March 1963. He grew up in the City of Wickliffe, Ohio, and graduated from Wickliffe Senior High School in 1981. In the Fall of 1983, he enrolled in a three year nursing program at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio, earning President's and Dean's List honors. In August 1985, he decided to change his major, and enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF). After basic training, he entered technical training as a medical administrative specialist in September 1985, and upon graduation, was selected to remain at Sheppard Technical Training Center to work in the Standardization and Evaluation Office until September 1989. While at Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB), he attended night school working towards his goal of earning a commission in the USAF. |

In March 1989 Captain Doering graduated from Wayland Baptist University, Texas, with a bachelor's degree in business. In September 1989, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USAF Medical Service Corps and attended the Health Services Administration Course, graduating as a Distinguished Graduate and the Honor Graduate. His first duty assignment was at the 97th Strategic Hospital, Eaker AFB, Arkansas, where he was the Director of Personnel and Administration, Medical Squadron Section Commander, and Resource Management Officer. He moved in July 1992 to Wright-Patterson AFB, where he worked as the executive officer to the commander, associate administrator for Hospital Services, and manager of the Health Benefits Office and Planning and Analysis Element at Wright-Patterson Medical Center. Dean was selected to be the associate administrator of the 74th Medical Group Provisional while deployed to Camp Pleso, Zagreb, Croatia, from August to December 1995. Next, he moved to Patrick AFB, Florida, in June 1996 to become the operations officer for the 45th Medical Support Squadron and the medical readiness officer for the 45th Medical Group. While at Patrick AFB he earned recognition as the Air Force Space Command 1998 Medical Readiness Officer of the Year. Finally, in June 1999, Dean (and his family) moved to San Antonio, Texas, to attend the U.S. Army - Baylor University Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration. |

Military decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 device), Air Force Commendation Medal (2 devices), Air Force Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award (2 devices), AF Organizational Excellence Award (1 device), AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Medal, and the NATO Medal. |

Captain Doering is married to the former Donna M. Davis from Westville, Illinois. They have two children, Ashlee and Dennis. His hobbies include running, volleyball, and coaching youth sports. He is currently waiting to pin on major, effective 1 July 2000. |
