Masking the Writing Process
I teach Language Arts to non-tracked, non-graded high-school students whose abilities vary from  low functioning to reading and writing beyond their age level. Trying to keep such a varied group engaged while offering them an adequate education challenges me most. Although I must maintain the curriculum standards, typical grade-level curricula and textbooks cannot be relied upon, so I decided to attempt a nested, integrated reading and writing lesson beginning with the Greek play Antigone.

I have learned that the content of a paper drives the structure and apply that concept throughout my lessons. I challenge students to create by examining the content with which they are working. As you browse this page, you will see how I attempted to address multiple learning styles, exploring the  relationship among reading, writing, and theatrical and artistic expression. This site also intends to serve as a suggestion for integrating reading, writing, and art in high school classrooms.**
