Faerie Kin Template

Created by Piratespice

The fey are known as a promiscuous people who find beauty in everything and are prone to falling in love with mortals and other races. Such romances are usually doomed from the start, but often enough a child is born of such unions. Such children are the faerie kin — mortals born with fey blood, and thus inheriting a bit of their magical parent’s power.

Most faerie kin are born of nymphs or sidhe, but it isn’t unheard of for a brownie or nixie to beget a half-mortal child (though this often requires the assistance of magic). Still, the blood of the fey is less dependant upon individual race as it is upon the otherworldly magic that binds them together. Thus, faerie kin share many traits common to fey that may not necessarily be inherent in their ancestry.

Creating A Faerie Kin

Almost any type of creature can be born faerie kin. The fey are a mercurial people, prone to strange attractions. Their many bizarre powers and magical natures make all manner of unions possible.

“Faerie kin” is a template that can be added to any creature (referred to hereafter as the “base creature”) except for constructs, fey, and undead. The creature’s type changes to “fey.”

The faerie kin uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.

Size: Faerie kin tend to be smaller and lighter than most other members of their base species. Base creatures of Large or larger size become one size smaller (e.g. a Huge creature becomes Large, a Large creature becomes Medium-size). Medium-size or smaller creatures have a 50% chance of becoming one size smaller. A creature that is already Fine remains at that size.

Hit Dice: Same as base creature.

Speed: Faerie kin of Medium-size or smaller size have a 75% chance of having wings. The creature can fly at their normal speed (average maneuverability). Larger creatures only have wings if the base creature does.

AC: Natural armor improves by +2. Faerie kin are naturally slippery and quick.

     Attack: Same as base creature.

     Damage: Same as base creature.

Text Box: Level	Abilities	Level	Abilities

9-10	Invisibility (self only)	19+	Otto’s Irresistible Dance
* Faerie kin must touch the target.	** Visual and auditory elements only.

Special Attacks: A faerie kin retains all the special attacks of the base creature. Faerie kin possess the following spell-like abilities, using their level as the caster level, as specified in the table below. Unless otherwise noted, the ability is usable once per day.

Special Qualities: A faerie kin has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus low-light vision.

     Saves: Same as base creature.

     Abilities: –1 Str, +3 Dex, –1 Con, +0 Int, +0 Wis, +4 Cha

Skills: A faerie kin has 8 skill points, plus its Intelligence modifier, per Hit Die. Treat skills from the base creature’s list as class skill and other skills as cross-class. If the creature has a class, it gains skills for class levels normally.

Faerie kin receive +3 racial bonus to Bluff, Hide in Shadows, Move Silently, and Wilderness Lore checks.

Feats: Faerie kin have one feat for every four levels or the base creature’s total of feats, whichever is greater.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Climate/Terrain: Same as either the base creature or the parent fey.

Organization: Same as base creature or alone. Faerie kin are often outcasts, or find the presence of their fellow base creatures distasteful. Most faerie kin associate more closely with their fey cousins, and may seek their company instead.

Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +1.

Treasure: Same as the base creature.

Alignment: Usually chaotic. Good, neutral, or evil determined as per the base creature.

Advancement: By size or character class.
