The Kobold
Revolutionary
Kobolds live a life of fear and cruelty. They tunnel and trap their
subterranean homes in a cowardly, but clever attempt to thwart their many
enemies. The average kobold lives a short life and dies by the spear-point of a
fellow kobold or an adventurer’s arrow. The leadership of the kobold race is
formed out of haughty sorcerer-kings, hoarding wealth and ruling their people
with the tyrannical notion of birthright based on the blood of dragons. Kobold
clergy enforces the values of cruelty and cowardice, pitting kobolds in an
everlasting war against the gnomes, a war they are bound to lose.
They aren’t people you’d like as friends, except the rare kobold who falls
outside the norm. Generally, kobolds who show compassion pay for their
kindness. Kobolds who would fight bravely die trying as their comrades flee.
The kobold who questions the authority of the sorcerer-kings is reduced to
dust. The rare kobold who questions the teachings of Kurtulmak generally receives
a fate worse than death. With all hope of positive change snuffed out before it
can be kindled, the outlook for the kobold race looks grim. It would take a
kobold that could stand up to the forces of treachery, arms, magic, and the
dogma of a dark god to lead some of them to a better life - a Kobold
Revolutionary.

A Cunning Foe: The
Kobold Revolutionary must do battle in a world full of large, strong creatures.
To survive, he must fight with his wits and steel, dodging and parrying blows
that would fell him. The Kobold Revolutionary gains the Expertise feat. When
wearing no armor, the Kobold Revolutionary may add his Intelligence modifier
(if positive) to his Armor Class as an insight bonus that does not stack with
any other Intelligence-based Armor Class bonus.
Poison Use: The Kobold Revolutionary is not above using poison to save his race
from tyrannical rulers or bloodthirsty gnomes. He is trained in the use of
poison and never risks accidentally poisoning himself when applying it to a
blade.
Sneak Attack: The Kobold Revolutionary applies his combat expertise to picking
out the most vulnerable areas of his opponents to strike quickly and lethally.
(As Rogue ability.)
Aura of Courage: The Kobold Revolutionary is fearless in the face of danger,
and his presence alone helps his comrade abandon cowardly ways. (As Paladin
ability.)
Righteous Indignation: It is a deep-seated desire to change the fate of his
race that drives the Kobold Revolutionary onward. Kobolds are bullied by both
stronger races and their own leaders. If the Kobold Revolutionary witnesses the
oppression of a weaker individual by a stronger one, he gains a +2 morale bonus
to attacks, damage, and saves until the oppressor is defeated (in retreat,
dead, or unconscious.) Righteous Indignation takes a Standard action that does
not provoke an Attack of Opportunity to activate. It is an Extraordinary
ability.
Why can’t we be friends?: The Kobold Revolutionary must bridge gaps, heal old
grievances, and fight with words as well as swords to accomplish his goals. He
gains a morale bonus to Diplomacy equal to his Kobold Revolutionary level. This
bonus increases by +1 if the Kobold Revolutionary sings the song.
Walk in the Sun…: The Kobold Revolutionary has accustomed himself and those who
follow him to the harsh rays of the sun, as his race cannot survive by hiding
in dark caves forever. He and any kobold followers or cohorts gained through
the Leadership feat gain the Daylight Adaptation feat.
…But Live in the Dark: The Kobold Revolutionary and his followers must still
fight beneath the surface against their traditional enemies as well as their
own kind, although they are adapted to surface life. The Kobold Revolutionary
and his kobold followers or cohort gain Low-Light vision to 120 feet.
Indomitable: The Kobold Revolutionary’s mind is difficult to control, and he
refuses to fall prey to the tricks of sorcery. He gains Slippery Mind and Still
Mind, as the Rogue and Monk abilities.
Lord of a Thousand Scales: The Kobold Revolutionary has overcome obstacles in
the way of his race’s progress, and kobolds everywhere join his cause to seek a
better way of life. He gains a +10 bonus to his Leadership score for the purposes
of attracting kobold followers or cohorts. For Leadership scores of more than
25, see the Epic Level Handbook.
