| Refilling and Bleeding the Top Reservoir : J-body Conv. *Before filling or bleeding of top resevoir, fabricate a filler plug using the following procedure: 1.Obtain a spare rubber filler plug. 2.Cut 1/2" off male end (end inserted into resevior) to permit insertion of tubing. 3. Obtain 2" of 7/32" metal tubing. 4. Insert reworked plug & tube into filler hole in resevoir. NOTE: You can actually avoid this and just get a small funnel with a piece of rubber vacuum hose attached to the end of it. Chances are you will still make a mess though ! |

| GM recommend using a high quality brake fluid to fill the hydraulic system.. Any DOT 3 brake fluid should do. I have attached some pictures to try and help you during this task.
To fill the resevoir, first you must remove the spare tire and rear compartment partion. Its that black particleboard / carpet section in the front of the trunk. It will come out with a little tugging. I beleive mine had velcro holding it securely to the trunk carpeting. You should now be able to see the top motor, some hydraulic hoses that run to the top lift cylinders on each side, and a brass fitting on Next, place some rags underneath the reservoir to mop up any spills The next step is to pull the filler plug from the top reservioir. Attach your rubber hose or filler plug metal hose adapter (as mentioned above). Try to place the hose in the reservoir as far down as you can to avoid getting any air into the hydraulic system. Add fluid until the level is even with the filler plug hole. To bleed the system, operate the top up & down until the pump's noise gets quieter. You may see air bubbles come up into the reservoir. Operate top until bubbles disappear. With the top in the down position, remove your hose or filler plug adapter. Double-check the fluid level and replace filler plug. Reinstall carpted trunk panel & spare tire. |
