This was my first attempt at building a hot rod Ford. An 81 Fairmont 2 door with 35,000 original miles. The car was clean...inside. The outside looked decent, but it came from Milwaukee. Let's just say the Milwaukee winters and the lack of a garage kicked its unibody ass. There was way too much rust to even consider building any serious horsepower. I had plans to replace the 2.3 4 cylinder with a 306 and T5 out of an 86 GT. I even had the motor on a stand in my garage, a Flaming River steering rack kit, An 8.8 with 3.55 gears, and the Ford Motorsport crossmember. All I needed was a weekend and a six-pack of Pabst. I decided the sleeper Fairmont was a good idea, but poorly executed. I needed something a little cleaner, and newer. Like an SN-95 Cobra.
