The same spring I was graduating college, the little Cavalier came back into my life. I was able to get the car that slipped through my hands...back. The best part was the car was bascially preserved for nearly 6 years and had been driven less than 700 miles since getting a mild restoration. I have owned the car since 2001, and have been actively improving upon it as time and money allow. It currently sports over 9,000 miles on the new motor and doesn't miss a beat. Its a real blast to drive because it reminds me of high school, grade school, my family, and my childhood all at once. I occasionally show the car at local cruise-ins and car shows but its more of a fair weather driver. And now that gas prices have skyrockted its an economical way to get to work in the summer. I'll always own this car and someday I might shell out the money to repaint it correctly. There's plenty of little bubbles and chips here and there, and the doors need some work up top. But overall she's a solid and original example of a GM J-body convertible...and she holds a special place in my heart.
GM J-body owners & enthusiasts: sign up for an account on WWW.J-BODY.ORG and get in touch with fellow J owners. Especially if you own a first generation (1982-1987) car, you'll be able to join others who enjoy these cars. Also on the forums you can find parts, repair information, and pretty much anything else you'd want to know about these old things. My username is "monkeyspunk79" and I'm always posting there. See you on the forums!
