Intermediate Points Trend
There
have only been seven Kentucky
Derby winners since 1950 which had less than 2 points Intermediate in their
Dosage Profile for a trend success percentage of 87%. Three of these seven
failures are the 1950, 1951 and 1952 winners! So, looking at the last 50
runnings of the Kentucky Derby 90% of the winners had at least 2 points
Intermediate in their Dosage Profile.
Taking
a pre-numbers game Dosage perspective on this trend, the Intermediate sires
(especially the Intermediate only, not split sires) were the great “mixer”
blood sires. THE TETRARCH being one of the model sires for the “Intermediate” category.
These “mixer” sires could not appear in a four generation pedigree too much,
the more the better. These sires had the ability to “blend” the other contributing
sires traits for the best possible mix.
This
Intermediate category has become a cloud for this original concept. Due to
fitting placement of chef-de-race sires to fit a numbers scheme, this key
concept is eroding. But never the less, zero points in the Intermediate category
as is becoming more common on perspective
