Anything but a Colt unlikely. I am NOT tracking Fillies now, maybe never?

Colts flat dominate the Run for the Roses. CAVONNIER loosing to GRINDSTONE in a tight photo in 1996 Kentucky Derby renewal sure was scary, but second is second. While geldings are have an extremely remote probability of winning the Derby, as far as them running in the Kentucky Derby they are far less unlikely. Trainers do not give a hoot about Colt / Gelding and will enter if they think they deserve it (or not if they are one of those such inclined trainers who enter horses that don’t belong).

Fillies on the other hand even when looking like a monster are not very likely to ever make it to the gate in the Kentucky Derby. Every year there are rumblings about some females out there, quite often trained by Lukas or Baffert, that “could run with the boys”. But as the road to the Derby progresses they very rarely ever start in the Derby. So, I will definitely not spend one second tracking any filly for a long time. I will not clutter up my Watch List with them, this year. We’ll see early in 2002 if there any “rumblings” still, and possibly track one or two.

Since 1950 the Kentucky Derby has been won by Colts all but two years. WINNINGS COLORS (1988) which FORTY NINER should have won, and 1980 was won by GENUINE RISK.
