This bright red nodule is frightening to the parents, but caution is needed to prevent scarring from the treatment itself. The lesions disappear spontaneously, but there can be residual atrophy or depigmentation in 20% of cases.

Plateau After growth phase ends Growth halts; Stable
Involution 50 % involute by the time child is 5 YO

  • Definition: A Capillary Hemangioma of Infancy is a localized proliferation of angioblastic mesenchyme.

  • Incidence: 1 - 2 %

  • Treatment:

    • Each lesion must be judged individually regarding the decision to treat or not to treat and the selection of a treatment mode.

    • Surgical and medical interventions include:

      • continuous wave or pulsed dye laser

      • cryosurgery

      • systemic glucocorticoids.

    • When possible, treatment should be avoided because spontaneous resolution gives the best cosmetic results
