Welcome to the personal webpage of me, Thom Adams. Here you will find a bunch of stuff related to my varied (read unfocused) personal interests and hobbies.

By day I am an Associate Professor of Mechancial Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. If you'd like to know more about that you might like to visit my professional webpage. (By "professional" I mean that it is hosted by my employer. I'm not so sure that the content is all that professional.)

I am happily married to a wonderful woman, Diedre Adams. Dee teaches science at West Vigo Middle School, for which she recently won a national award. Dee has two grown children, Kyle and Shannon, whom we love very much - when they're not draining our bank accounts dry, that is. When we're not engaged in the various activities described on this site, Dee and I play lots of cribbage and Scrabble^®, eat sushi and generally have a good time.

The moniker "Doctor Thom" came about shortly after I received my Ph.D., at which time I began teaching engineering. "Dr. Adams" was a bit formal for my taste, but I had worked too darned hard for that degree not to be called doctor. And so I resolved to be called Doctor Thom, which is how most students address me today. In fact, sometimes when someone says "Dr. Adams" I am not sure they are talking to me.
