In 1939 Enzo Ferrari set up his company in Modena, Italy but it wasnt until 1946 that the first Ferrari was produced. The first Ferrari held its ground with a V12 engine and a top speed of 170km/h. All the first models were racing cars, then 1949 saw the first road car. In 1960 Ferrari made its first mid- engine car. This tradition continues until today. Eventually in 1969 Fiat purchased 50% of the company, then in 1988 when Enzo passed away: (Fiat acquired the whole company.
