width-fixer The last two weeks

Doc couldn't fit inside the car yet, so Eddie did the initial testing. Eddie's son, Johnny and granddaughter, Holly are pictured here with Doc for the first "try out".

June 20 1990 We bought fiber-glass formed seats and foam blocks. Doc cut the foam to conform with his body.

And I stitched the seat covers. (Purple, of course!)

Seat completed, Doc tries it out. Here, he is making "race-car noises" and pretending. He was really getting excited!

Seat cover on, Doc tries it for comfort. (Note: The device between his knees, is his ever-present "third arm" which he and a friend invented when he was 17. Here he uses it to help balance himself.)

June 27 1990 R&J Mobility provided the swivel base and put tracks on the fiber-glass seat so it could slide forward and backwards. Then they built up the seat-base in order to accommodate Doc's body. Because of his arthritis, Doc was unable to bend or straighten any of his joints. We didn't put the purple seat cover on yet, to keep it clean until race day
