width-fixer Finally, all is going well

Back to R&J Mobility, where another brother, David Rowland, makes a few necessary adaptive changes in the reconstructed Severely Disabled Chicken Coupe. (Note: Doc wore a "Tweety Pie" earring which he could "make dance" by wiggling his ear.)

R&J's Ronnie Rowland remounts "Lavinder Lightening", Doc's mascot, which Ronnie had given to him early in the '95 Season, and had been "roosting" at R&J Mobility during the reconstruction.

Dale Hillyer, owner of Hillyer's Wheel and Tire Center, Salem, OR sponsors alignments needed after the "total slam". Everything was out of whack...and the ONE time Doc got to take it down the track in 1996, it had "bump steer" so badly, it was undriveable!

At Hillyer's, Doc takes the opportunity to get a good look at the under-carriage.

April 1997 Fred Bachofner, Executive Director of the NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION of Oregon & SW Washington, came out to our home when they decided to promote the "Kidney Cars" program on the sides of Doc's race car. Doc "took advantage of his disadvantage" when he had kidney failure. The Kidney Foundation became Doc's first "real" sponsor. The "Kidney Cars" program solicitated donations of unwanted cars. They would in turn, sell them, with all profits going towards Kidney Research, Education and financial support to dialysis patients. I continue to support this cause, as I believe more than ever, that the battle against kidney failure needs to be won. So if you have an unwanted car, call 1-888-3KIDNEY and tell them, "Doc Lavinder sent me!"

You can see a close-up of the "Kidney Car" message as David Rowland of R&J Mobility does a few more needed adjustments. (Note: Break-away roll bar in foreground)
