As of January 2013, we will no longer be associating with a Baptist Ridge Dobermans in Hilham, TN.  They have proven to be disgusting breeders
and filthy human beings.  Their kennels are shown to be unhealthy for any creature residing there.  It has been proven they have lied to us,
and to others, in order to buy young female dogs, to breed.  They breed those same females, and males, prior to them reaching 1 year old.
This is totally unethical behavior and we will never support a puppy mill with a totally fraudulent website, full of lies, in order to scam the unknowing public.

Do your homework.  Unfortunately for two of our wonderful red female pups, Chestnut and Red Willow, it's too late to save them from a life of
over-breeding starting when they are 1 year old.  But we made sure to keep any other quality Dobieden pups out of their grubby mitts.
Below you will see some of the pathetic emails they sent to make us believe they were legitimate doberman breeders.  And after we cancelled
the sale of 2 female pups from our current litter to them, they went out the next day and got a 1 year old female from another breeder.
They lied to the dogs' owner by saying they only owned two poodles.  This was in January 2013 when they bought that AKC female for $800,
changed her name, and are already taking reservations for her planned litter, RIGHT AWAY!  Too bad they never got a litter from her.
They had that dog less than 6 months when they put her up for sale because they were not successful in breeding her.  No puppies, no money, get rid of dog!

These people are the definition of "back yard breeder" and "puppy mill" and should be turned in, so all their dogs are taken away from them
before they die of abuse.  They say they don't have a kennel on their property.  Nope, lie.  They have one.  They say they only have 2 poodles.
Nope, lie, they have several dobermans, and getting more females to breed whenever you turn around.
Puppy mill to the extreme definition.  They say they do medical testing.  Nope, lie.  Their dogs aren't old enough to test for DCM or get
OFA certified.  They are breeding untested dobermans and taking a chance on selling sub-quality dobermans to the innocent public.
We know the quality of the two girls they got from us, but after they over-breed them every heat, they sure won't be quality then.

So beware.  Do your research, read up on these scam artists and remember their names.  This is a totally trash organization.

As of May 7, 2014, they are still posting lies about us on their website.  So they are still trying to put their CIRCUS "greeder" association, above our established
quality kennel.  Only thing lacking from their VILLAGE, are the striped circus tents.  Oh wait.  I forgot.  They LIVE in them!  No one in their right mind sets up play houses in a "VILLAGE" for their dogs.  They continue to amaze me with their foolish gestures.
We all know they are just idiots trying to make a fast buck off the backs of their dogs.  NO ONE in their right mind would continue to breed female dogs when they are less than a year old.  They have no room to try to say anything negative about anyone else.

Obviously, I'm not the ONLY one thinking they are low-lifes..... just look at what people are posting on YELP about them:

Beware any transaction you have with Baptist Ridge Dobermans and insist on seeing complete vet and breeding records for your pup

  1. Make sure you see certified copies of vWD testing results of at least both parents, if not the pup you’re buying. They say they test but, they admit they don’t.
  2. Ask to see complete and detailed vet records for the last year of both parents.
  3. Ask when the female of your pup was last bred. Then verify against their online breeding schedule(s).  They start breeding their females when they are a year old and that's WHY we refuse to sell a pup to them, and why they are so jealous of us.
  4. Ask for a complete tour of their facilities. Is this where you want your puppy raised?
  5. Ask to play with the parents of your pup and examine them for wounds and sores.
  6. Ask to see where the parents and the pups sleep at night.
  7. Ask them for referrals from other Doberman breeders.  We have may referral emails from our families.  They have been in business less than 2 years and have NO BREEDING EXPERIENCE other than very unethical breeding practices.

Below are pictures of the two pups they got from us.

Chestnut (picture taken at
The Dobieden, before she left for the puppy mill)
Red Willow (picture taken at the Dobieden, before she left for the puppy mill)

Just think!  They loved our pups so much, that they bought TWO of them when they were 6 weeks old!

Email referral Aug 6, 2012 from Kathleen Russell:

"Kendra & Skip,

We received your signup on the Baptist Ridge Notification list. Thank you! In that notification you said you were looking for a puppy around the end of September when you'll be in Tennessee. We will not have any puppies at that time, all of the puppies from our only litter in 2012 have been sold. However, we know of a great breeder in North Carolina who we like and have a puppy on order, so if you like our dogs you will also like hers.

Her name is Lisa Harraden and I'm copying her on this e-mail. I'm pretty sure she has a black and tan male from a very recent litter available so if you contact her you might be able to reserve it. Her pups, like ours, go very quickly.

If Lisa does not have any pups available, our next litter available for pups to take home is planned for February 2013.

I hope this help you and I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you,
Baptist Ridge Dobermans"

Email from male partner (Gene Wolf) on Oct 10, 2012:

“Just thought you'd like to see the pictures of Chestnut I put up on my blog this afternoon. She's turning into a real beauty!  Yep! She's a great dog and just what Zeus needed after his big buddy Max passed. She's going to be a great dog. Already she's running alongside Zeus. While she can't yet keep up with him she is trying and it's great for her development! ”

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Oct 15, 2012, showing obvious lie:

Well we walked away from 10K a guy wanted to give us for Baron. That is the truth 10K He gave us a bad feeling the more we talked and I said no I can't sell him. Now I know Baron is not a 10K dog believe me and most would have jumped at it but he was an ass so I said NO WAY sorry

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Nov 1, 2012, showing another obvious lie:

Please do I would not do anything to hurt her or you

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Nov 9, 2012 after they picked up the second pup from our kennel:

Gene thinks she is just great. We took a bunch of pictures so we can put up a slide show of her tomorrow. She spent the afternoon playing with Chestnut. She has eaten had some milk and passed out in her crate. I'm hoping to get some sleep  tonight. She is such a little mess.... she is barking playing and following me through the pastures just keeping right up. She is awesome!! What a talker she is.  I know I know patience ..... I hate that lol but Willow and Chestnut had a great day.

Email from male partner (Gene Wolf) on Nov 14, 2012:

“Yeah, I like her alot. She's got a great personality and it looks like she and Chestnut are going to be best buds. It's funny watching Zeus teach Chestnut how to be a dog. He has already taught her how to 'knock' on the door in order to get let in. I'm seeing the same behavior between Chestnut and Willow, even at this early age. She's showing her how to run, where a ball is, what you can do with it, how to explore and a ton of other stuff. If you were just watching you'd think they were just doing dog stuff but Chestnut watches Willow and repeats what she did until Willow gives it a try. It's really touching to watch them together. Willow is one great dog!”

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Dec 5, 2012, trying to convince me that we should sell them another female pup:

Well we have gotten 2 wonderful  healthy good temperament and beautiful girls so we are well pleased!  So that is a complement to you and your dogs.

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Dec 10, 2012, to one of her puppy buyers:

Jonathan
It is nice to hear from you. We first want to say sorry for your loss.
Lisa is a wonderful person and breeder. She has some awesome dogs and we love everyone we have gotten. If you look at Our Dogs on the site Chestnut and Willow have come from Lisa. We are getting the Black and Tan from her in Jan. We will give you a link to Our Dogs where you can see for yourself what she (Lisa) produces.
http://www.baptistridgedobermans.com/our-dogs/chestnut-female/ this is Chestnut
http://www.baptistridgedobermans.com/our-dogs/red-willow/ this is Red Willow. Both  are beautiful.

********they did NOT get a puppy from us in January.  We cancelled the sale 4 days before they were to pick the puppies up, when we found out they were a puppy mill.

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Jan 3, 2013, wanting 2 MORE pups from us:

I would be looking for Rosie and Chappie vWD clears though. Black and tan is all we want. We would like to get 2 females if that is possible? Does that work for you.

********this is when they reserved two MORE puppies from our March 2013 litter.  They will NEVER be allowed on our property again and will NEVER have access to any more of our puppies.

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Jan 8, 2013, stating they breed their dogs at one year old:

Zelda and Baron should be Reds and Black and Tans. Then in about Aug. Zeus and Chestnut after Chestnut is a year will be Reds and Black and Tans Zelda and Baron will breed again in Nov. and we haven't decided on Willow after she is a year we thought Baron but I don't know if they will all be red or what.

********this is the first time we got the word of their unethical breeding practices.  Researched them at that time and reviewed their website to see the TRUTH about their operation and the lies on their website.  Also no mention of where they get their dogs from, making it sound like ALL their dogs were born and raised there, and using pics of OUR puppies to sell their sub-standard pups, from untested dogs.

Email from female partner (Kathleen Russell) on Jan 8, 2013:

We asked our vet with Zelda and he said she was fine. We did her back to back because she had only 4 and came through like nothing. The vet checked her out and said she was really healthy and all looked good . Now Zelda won't bread for a year.  He did the AI on Zelda at a year.

*******NO DECENT VETERINARIAN is EVER going to promote breeding of a doberman that is only 1 year old, and certainly not recommend the back to back breeding of the same dog when she was only a year old on her first litter.  (AI=artificial insemination)

Our FINAL email to Baptist Ridge Dobermans on Jan 8, 2013, canceling the sale of any more dobermans to them:

"to Gene Wolf and Kathleen Russell, (both partners names)",

I’ve been away from the computer since you emailed me this afternoon, researching and making phone calls about your timing for breeding.  It upset me enough that I contacted three veterinarians for their opinion, researched a couple websites including AKC and DPCA views, and discussed this with Ernie before determining what to do.

Long story short, Ernie and I do not agree with breeding female Dobermans when they are only a year old.  Never have, never will.  That is too young and I cannot believe that any veterinarian would support that practice.  Most vets, AKC, DPCA, other experienced breeders, and Ernie and I recommend waiting till the bitch is 18-24 months old, prior to any breeding.  We have 22 years of breeding Dobermans and find that to be a good solid recommendation and practice.

We did not realize that you bred your females at that young age and do not wish to put any other dobies in that position.  Since we care about pups we sell throughout their lifespan, we consider early breeding of females, a serious detriment to their overall health.

Neither males nor females should be bred before thorough health testing, and you can’t do that at a year old.  OFA certification is done after the dogs are 2 years old and I have not heard you mention any other testing than the vWD we’ve done on the 2 girls you got from us.  Brucellosis should be done on the kennel anytime other dogs are brought in to breed, if they have ever been bred.  Don’t know if you have studded out your dogs, so that’s probably a moot point, but I know you can’t do a lot of testing on dogs before they are 2 years old.

We have bred some of our females at 18 months, but for the most part, dogs are not mature enough physically, to breed before they are a minimum of 18 months old.  I have posted two links that I found informative about the subject to back up my views.  Our two vets, and another vet we have worked with in the past, all agree that a 1 year old female is too young to breed.

http://dogs.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Dogs_Mating

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_old_does_a_female_dog_have_to_be_to_start_breeding

In your email, you also state the colors you “expect” to get from the pairing with Chestnut and Magnolia.  Got news for you, Kathy, you can’t do that.  You have no idea what you’ll have until you have the first litter of pups with that particular pairing.  If you could do that, then you should move to Vegas.  Just because you pair a red and a red, does not mean you’ll get all reds.  Blacks and reds do not necessarily produce blacks and reds.  Have you studied the color chart that is on the DPCA website?  Here’s the link…..

http://dpca.org/breed/breed_color.htm

So don’t jump the gun till you see the pups.  Might surprise you.

So basically, the bottom line is, Ernie and I would prefer to just close the deal on the sale of these two pups.  I’m sure your buyer for the red female will be glad to wait for another pup from you.  The only airlines that ship pups, cannot ship to colder temps in the wintertime, and seeing the temps in OK for the end of January are predicted to be very low, this pup wouldn’t be making the flight anyway.  Better to be safe than sorry.

I apologize for the last minute notification, but I was not aware of your breeding schedules until this afternoon.  Ernie and I are very careful to do the best we can for our pups, and you obviously, are not in that category.  We feel that breeding them at a year old is too young, and not a healthy practice.

Thank you

Lisa and Ernie

*****And the next day, they went out and found a 1 year 4 day old black female doberman to bring home and start breeding immediately.  They told the seller they only owned 2 poodles, so the seller had no clue she was releasing her pet into a life of constant breeding at a puppy mill.

***and when that same female did not produce pups in that breeding, they immediately went out and sold her because she didn't bring them any money.  Very callous behavior.
