Traffic exchanges make you view other people's website to earn views to your site. My preferences go to the ones that have: a 1:1 ratio, a short timer, the possibility to enter many URLs and different weights for each, the possibility to bookmark the sites we view or to open them in a new window to bookmark them, 3 levels of more for referrals. The ones mentioned here have many of these characteristics.
There are 2 kinds of traffic exchanges:
StartPage or Login Exchanges
You have to click on a button to go to the next site. With start page exchanges, you get credits for putting the page as your startpage in your browser. You can get a start page rotator to rotate different exchanges at Build Referrals. You can also get there a rotator to rotate different sites on exchanges that allow it.

Autosurf Exchanges
These exchanges show up sites without your having to click to get to the next one. There is no doubt that many people will just leave this open and not look at the sites, but since they often tend to stop, people need to check on it once in a while, so they may happen to see your site. They may also spend a few minutes looking at the sites.

These two are a little different. They let you choose the sites you want to look at and so that makes you get targeted traffic since people choose your ad. It makes for slower surfing though. With Traffic Swarm, you can get extra credits for one site and you get credits if you put a pop-under on your page.
