| Welcome Back! Welcome to a new year at IUP, and a new year in Delta Omicron. I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer, whatever you've been doing, and that the break has helped you to prepare for another year in Indiana. DO members, It's almost time for another great semester at IUP and a new promising year of Delta Omicron. This year shows much potential and is full of possibilities that can be accomplished with the committed and dedicated membership that this year is already presenting. | Summer 2002 Delta Sigma Chapter DO Newsletter Summer News ~~ Matt Carlton spent July 20th to August 4th touring with the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic. He played performances throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, with stops in Rehoboth Beach, DE and the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, MD. TJ Lukacsina saw Cher twice this summer, worked two jobs, and became an official movie-holic. He will miss everyone in the Fall but he looks forward to visits. Mandy Rineer took summer classes and went to Madison, Wisconsin with Daniel and Heidi Guenther for Drum Corps Finals to see Greg. Adrianne Knight went to her first DCI finals ever and sponsored her friend Justin Ferrainolo and her fellow DO member Greg McCutcheon. Abby Brewer spent the second half of her summer in Vienna, Austria, studying German at Universitat Wien. Bridget Shirey took summer classes for pre-session and summer session I. She attended Irish week at Davis and Elkins college for Augusta and studied Irish piano style with some of the well known Irish and folk musicians such as Brendan Dolan and Bob McQuillan. Aaron Patterson traveled to NOtre Dame in South Bend, Indiana to perform at the semifinals for the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition with "A Few Good Reeds" saxophone quartet (Aaron Patterson, Kurt Cessna, Brent Davis, and Jennifer Shuty). They moved on to the final round and placed third in the nation in the senior wind division - IUP represented the only state school at the competition. The following week "A Few Good Reeds" traveled to Killington, Vermont for two days to perform at some local schools. In June, Aaron worked at the Barnes & Noble coffee shop, his sister graduated from high school, and his family went to Cape May, NJ for their annual beach vacation. In July, he traveled throughout Europe with the Sound of America Honors Band and Chorus as a featured instrumental soloist. |
